What to Know About Diablo 4’s Big 1.1.1 Patch Coming Next Week

A diabolical mea culpa.

Blizzard’s Diablo team has been doing some damage control the last few weeks, to put it kindly. After a disastrous pre-season nerf to nearly every class, particularly in the department of survivability, the team has been having Campfire Chats and posting updates to Twitter left and right. The first major patch since the unpopular changes drops August 8 – here’s what you need to know.

Diablo 4 Patch 1.1.1 – Monster and Boss Changes

In both Nightmare Dungeons and the Helltide, monster density is increasing by about 50%. This comes along with a change to boss health, where bosses above level 60 will have increased health pools. Furthermore, Legion Events, bosses above level 35, and Treasure Goblins above level 15 are guaranteed to drop a Legendary item. This should make filling out your Aspects with decent rolls just a little bit easier.

Class Balance

To keep it succinct: Sorcerers, particularly of the fire variety, are getting big buffs to damage and mana generation. Barbarians are getting increased fury gains, as well as a notable buff to Rend. Druid’s companions are a bit stronger, and Necromancer’s minions won’t take as much environmental damage.

These tweaks aren’t quite enough to undo all the nerfing, but there are increased survivability options for Sorcerers in the Paragon board as well. Many players are arguing that Barbarian didn’t receive quite enough love here, but I think we’ll have to wait and see. As the devs mentioned on their stream, small changes to “root” values can quickly snowball when modifiers from skills and gear are applied, so it’ll take some time to see how it all shakes out.

General Changes

The Nightmare Dungeon affixes Resource Burn, Backstabbers, and Empowered Elites (Cold Enchanted) have been removed entirely. No more getting stun-locked to death by one iceyboi, or being resource-starved for an entire dungeon.

Players can also purchase an additional Stash Tab for gold, somewhat alleviating the headache that has been the game’s limited stash space. Hopefully, we’ll see more in the future, and let’s not forget that gems are being moved to the materials tab next season as well.
