Dice rolls play a constant role in Baldur’s Gate 3, and one of the only ways to alter how the dice work within the game is to change the Karmic Dice within your settings. However, it’s important to know what they do before you tinker with the odds of your character, and I have a full explanation in this guide.

How do Karmic Dice Work in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Karmic Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3 ensure that you can’t go on bad luck streaks after multiple dice rolls in the game. As long as the mechanic is enabled, it’s impossible to go on streaks where rolls are failed, or your attacks miss numerous times in a row. So if you happen to miss a couple of attacks, the odds of connecting become much higher.

Now that doesn’t mean it comes without a cost. The Karmic Dice will affect everything in the game, so that means enemies will have access to the dice as well. The mechanic is entirely invisible, but enemies will also have better chances of connecting their attacks and avoiding bad luck. It makes deciding to use the Karmic Dice more complicated.

Should You Enable Karmic Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3?

I would recommend using Karmic Dice if you don’t want to save scum in Baldur’s Gate 3. On modes like Explorer, this mechanic is turned on by default, and you can always change the option in your settings. Having them enabled will allow you to more consistently pass dialogue checks. Failing too many can get frustrating, especially at critical moments.

However, Karmic Dice will also cause you to take more damage. Because enemies won’t miss as often, your party will get hit at much higher rates. You deal more damage, and so do they. If you want to control every aspect of the game, then turning off the Karmic Dice is your best bet.
