Diablo 4 is full of stats that don’t have the best descriptions and damage to Distant Enemies for the Rogue is one of the most cryptic of them all. Despite sounding so simple, it’s hard to tell what distance actually means in terms of stats, and my guide will cover all you need to know about the obscure buff. Here’s how the Distant Enemies stat works in Diablo 4.
What are Distant Enemies in Diablo 4?
Distant Enemies are any monsters that are out of melee range. However, the melee range is larger than you might expect and is around five meters in a circle around your character. If you have ever done the world events where you follow the spirit, anything outside that circle is considered a Distant Enemy.
So although what counts as a close enemy is farther than the typical melee range, distance also doesn’t need to be that far. If your melee abilities don’t connect, then your Distant Enemy buff will start to kick in on the Rogue. That gives you a ton of room to work with on the Battlefield when mobs of monsters are crowding your vision.

For Rogues that use ranged attacks, and the bow especially, having damage against Distant Enemy buffs can be a massive advantage. Without it, the ranged builds tend to fall flat, which is already the case in most circumstances. I personally swapped from a ranged build and started utilizing the Twisting Blades Melee Rogue.
On the other side of the distance-based damage, there are plenty of buffs for Close Enemies as well. These buffs even come with damage reduction in Diablo 4, and you will certainly need that at World Tier 3 or above.
At some point, you might want to switch to a melee build yourself. If that’s the case, check out my guide on the Twisting Blades Rogue and start tearing through monsters in Diablo 4.
