How to Make Incense Sticks in RuneScape (RS3)

Light up your life with a range of useful incense sticks!

With so many gathering and crafting skills in RuneScape, it is no surprise then that players occasionally run across items that they do not know how to make. This is especially the case when it is an item that is not commonly made for leveling purposes. I know that I will never recover from the number of magic shortbows that I made on my journey to 99 Fletching. Nevertheless, incense sticks are a simple item to make that provide a range of benefits depending on what herb you use when crafting them. Here is how to make incense sticks in RuneScape.

Luckily for us, making the base incense stick is a straightforward process.

  • Start with logs of your choice.
  • Click on the logs to craft them. Select ‘Incense sticks’ on the ‘Choose a tool’ menu.
  • Add two demonic ashes to one wooden stick to create an ashy stick.
  • Add your herb of choice to the ashy stick to complete the incense stick.

How to Increase the Potency Level of Incense Sticks in RuneScape

Potency is linked to the incense stick timer. When you first light an incense stick, it has a 10-minute timer. It is possible to light more incense sticks to increase the timer to a maximum of 60 minutes. This is handy as you do not have to remember to light a new incense stick every 10 minutes.

When the incense is lit, the potency level starts at 1. Every 10 minutes, the potency level will increase by one and will max out at a total of 4. A secondary option if you want the maximum potency immediately is to use the right-click overload option to instantly be at level 4 potency in exchange for six incense sticks.

Incense sticks are simple to make and quite useful when it comes to a range of activities. You could even light a Torstol Incense Stick or two when hunting shards for the Golden Cape in RuneScape. After all, you might as well get the maximum XP rate that you can, right?
