The Island Sanctuary in FFXIV just received its biggest update since first released in patch 6.2, including a handful of new quests to complete, ranks to achieve, tools to craft, and animals to catch. One of the newest critters added to the Island Sanctuary is the Wild Boar and, luckily, it’s one of the more easier animals to catch. If you’re looking to freshen up your selection of domesticated wildlife, continue reading to learn how to catch a Wild Boar in Final Fantasy XIV’s Island Sanctuary.
Capturing Animals in FFXIV Island Sanctuary
You won’t be able to catch a Wild Boar without some serious tools first, so you’ll need to craft a special restraint to stand a chance at taking this sucker home. After reaching Rank 8 in your Island Sanctuary, you are able to craft the Makeshift Soporific, a tool specializing in capturing Large animals like the Wild Boar. To craft the soporific, gather up the following materials:
- 2 Island Laver
- 1 Island Sap
- 2 Island Jellyfish
Once crafted, you can equip the Makeshift Soporific after switching to Capture mode.
Capturing the Wild Boar – Time, Weather, and Location
While some animals can only be spotted when the time of day and weather conditions are just right, this isn’t the case for the Wild Boar. These guys are roaming around at all times of the day and no matter how bad the weather may be.
Head to the northwestern region of the Island Sanctuary right around the (X: 16, Y: 16) coordinates to spot the Wild Boar, peacefully grazing around the hills.
Approach the Wild Boar from behind and use the Makeshift Soporific on them to hopefully secure a catch. If successful, you’ll find the Wild Boar back at your pasture in your Island Sanctuary, hopefully getting along with the rest of your domesticated friends. Make sure to keep them happy and well-fed, as the Wild Boar will drop Sanctuary Fangs and Sanctuary Horns leavings for you once per day to collect.
