How to Superimpose in Honkai: Star Rail

Light Cones are very powerful pieces of equipment that can drastically increase a character’s base status in Honkai: Star Rail. Each of them also comes with its own unique passive which can be improved by going through the process of Superimposing. We’ll talk about how it works and whether you should do it or not with your spare Cones in Honkai: Star Rail.

How to Superimpose Light Cones in Honkai: Star Rail

Superimpose is the act of sacrificing a second copy of your Light Cone to increase its passive effects permanently. You’ll naturally earn multiple copies of the same Light Cone as you play the game, so instead of leaving them to rot in your inventory, you can give some extra potency to a character that enjoys using it.

You can do it by selecting a Light Cone on the menu and clicking on Enhance or Details. Then head for the Superimpose option and sacrifice your extra copy for more power. Don’t use the Cone as leveling material, otherwise you’ll just lose it without enhancing your passive.

It works just like Genshin Impact’s Weapon Refinement levels. Instead of having an R1 to R5 Weapon, we have S1 (Superimpose Level 1) or S5 (Level 5) Light Cones in Star Rail. Only passive effects are increased when Superimposing, so the base stats for Cones of the same name and level will be the same regardless of them being S1 or S5.

Is it Worth Superimposing Extra Light Cones?

It depends. I know, I know. This is not the answer you’re looking for, but hear me out. Superimposing a Light Cone or not depends on how strong its passive is and how easily you can get another copy of said Cone for another character that would also like to use it.

3-star Light Cones should always be fully Superimposed since you’re probably filled with those from pulling. 

4-stars are a harder choice, but since there are so many good options out there, your goal should be to eventually refine yours. Every non-limited character has its own signature 4-star Light Cone, so they can always use those.

5-stars are even more debatable. You rarely get across these Cones as a F2P player, so you should keep the copy and use it on another character. It might be useful later even if you don’t have any other character from that path yet. 

If you’re willing to spend some money, though, 5-star Light Cones have some extremely powerful Superimpose effects. This can easily cost you a few hundred dollars, so spend rationally.

With that said, I would argue that Superimposing is almost always the correct call. There are plenty of powerful options for using as Light Cones (3-stars with good passives are not as bad as they seem), so as long as you don’t feel that you’ll lose a huge potential by not keeping two copies of the same Cone, enhancing one of them should always be preferred.
