Best Counters for the Typhlosion Seven Star Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The seven-star Typhlosion Tera Raid will have two separate times before it’s gone. It will run first on April 14 through April 16 and then again on April 21 through April 23.

Typhlosion will be a ghost Tera Type to resemble its typing in Pokemon legends: Arceus. So this means you’ll need a Pokemon who is not weak to fire-type moves and can deal good damage to a ghost type.

Ghost Pokemon are weak to Dark and Ghost type attacks. They will be totally immune to Fighting and Normal-type attacks.

The trick is that since Ghost is powerful against Ghost, Typhlosion will likely have a ghost move to take advantage of the STAB (Same-type-attack-bonus) provided by its Tera Type. While we don’t know the full move list of the Typhlosion yet, this is a safe bet. So bringing a Ghost-type Pokemon might be to your detriment. We would bet on Shadow Ball as being the Ghost Type move Typhlosion brings to the fight.

Hisuian Zoroark

Now I know we just said not to bring a Ghost-type to this party. However, Hisuian Zoroark’s dual Ghost/Normal typing actually makes it immune to Ghost attacks. Therefore making it one of the best picks currently available for this raid. Zoroark can use Shadow Ball for maximum damage against the Typhlosion. Teaching it Rain Dance will also weaken Typhlosion’s fire moves and provide a great benefit to your team. EV train it in Health and Special Attack to maximize its potential output.

Houndoom

Houndoom’s Fire/Dark typing allows it to take less damage from Typhlosion’s Fire attacks while also dealing a ton of damage with its Dark-type moves. Houndoom can have the ability Flash Fire to absorb fire attack moves and power up its own Fire moves. So Flash Fire is a must-have on your Houndoom for this Tera Raid. EV Train it in Special Attack and Special Defense to keep it alive and dealing damage. Giving Houndoom at Shell Bell will give it more survivability and is always an excellent item to have on hand.

Chi-Yu

The legendary Pokemon Chi-Yu is a great pick for the Tera Raid Typhlosion. It’s Dark/Fire typing puts it in the same boat as Houndoom. Give it a Life Orb to boost its damage output. Set up a Light Screen turn one, then use Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse to maximize your damage output. You’ll want to EV train this Pokemon in Special Attack and HP to ensure your survivability and damage.
