What is Professional Mode in Resident Evil 4 Remake? – Answered

Not a mode for the casual gamer.

When first starting a playthrough of Resident Evil 4 Remake, your choice of difficulty is incredibly important. Depending on how good you feel you are with games, you should pick a difficulty that best suits you. It doesn’t matter if that’s the easiest or hardest difficulty, as long as you find enjoyment. One difficulty does have some confusion surrounding it, though we’re here to help. Here’s what Professional mode is in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

What Does Professional Mode Change in Resident Evil 4 Remake?

Professional mode is first unlocked upon completing Resident Evil 4 Remake for the first time. It doesn’t matter what difficulty you played through the game on; the mode will be unlocked regardless. The mode acts as a step above Hardcore, adding in a few modifiers that are sure to be quite daunting no matter who you are.

The biggest change of all is the lack of autosaves. If you suffer from one too many hits, you’ll be forced to go back to the last typewriter you saved at rather than the start of that encounter. This could set you back a ton of time if you aren’t careful, so you’ll need to plan your approach very carefully. Parrying is also limited to doing Perfect Parries, limiting your defensive options at close range.

On the bright side, the game does offer you a few benefits going into it. For starters, Professional mode can be started through New Game Plus, letting you keep all that hard-earned gear before jumping straight in. You’ll also get access to all weapon modifications from the start, should you need them. These can help a ton in the early game, at least, though you’ll be on your own later on.
