Differences Between Resident Evil 4 Remake Digital and Collector's Editions Explained

Should You Save the Dog in the Resident Evil 4 Remake?

Be careful, PETA might have a gun to your head!

Resident Evil games aren’t exactly focused on the idea of morality and making different choices to shape your character. 99% of the time, it’s obvious that your character/organization are good, and the mutated monsters are the bad guys who must be annihilated. Every once in a while, that changes, and one particular instance in the latest installment is further proof of that. Here’s whether you should save the dog in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

How to Save the Dog in the Resident Evil 4 Remake

The dog in question appears around the Village Chief’s Manor during a particular chapter in the Resident Evil 4 Remake. It will have its leg caught in a bear trap, though, unlike the other dogs, has light fur instead of dark fur and dark eyes. This makes it clear that this dog is not infested and instead is a dog that simply stepped on the wrong spot. From here, you’re given a few options for how to approach the situation. You could shoot the bear trap itself, shoot the dog just in case it’s all a ruse, or free it manually.

Rest assured, we won’t be angering PETA today. Your best option is to walk up to the bear trap and disarm it peacefully, as the dog will simply run away after you free it. That isn’t the last you’ll see of it, though (minor gameplay spoilers ahead). As you reach the first fight with the El Gigante in the quarry, partway through the fight, the dog will reappear. It will distract the El Gigante for you, allowing you to take it down much more easily. After the fight, the dog will disappear and never be seen again.

While Resident Evil 4 Remake doesn’t have any moral choices, it’s nice to see yourself rewarded when you choose to hesitate and not blast every living thing you see. When it comes to the Fatal D3D error, though (which you can read about in our guide), a different solution will suffice.
