Team Rocket (or an off-brand iteration) has been the villainous thorn in the sides of every Pokemon game to exist, ever. And that includes Pokemon GO. But at least in Pokemon GO, they serve a useful function, they allow you to capture Shadow Pokemon and work your up to catching Shadow Legendries. But these Team GO Rocket grunts can prove difficult because of their powerful Pokemon. Here’s how to defeat Golurk in Pokemon GO, with all counters and weaknesses listed.
How to Defeat Golurk in Pokemon GO – All Counters and Weaknesses
If you’re attempting to beat the Team GO Rocket grunt that says nothing but “Ke…ke…ke…ke…ke…ke!”, you’re not alone. Or maybe you’re attempting to take down Golurk in the 3-Star Raid. If that’s the case, skip to the bottom of the article.
This Team GO Rocket grunt uses Ghost Type Pokemon, all of whom pack a punch. But it’s this Grunt’s Golurk that’s proved to be quite difficult for many. Fortunately, Golurk has a distinct set of weaknesses and counters we can exploit.
Golurk is a Ground/Ghost-Type Pokemon, and its weaknesses are manifold:
- Dark
- Ghost
- Grass
- Ice
- Water
Fortunately, that leaves us with many possible Pokemon to counter it with. Darkrai is ideal, as it has resistance to Ghost-Type moves and it has access to super effective Fast and Charge attacks like Feint Attack, Shadow Ball, Snarl, and Dark Pulse.
But Darkrai is a Pokemon missing from many teams. And if you fall into that camp, another good option is Weavile. Weavile is a Dark and Ice Type Pokemon with access to many moves that exploit Golurk’s weaknesses while being resistant to Ghost-Type moves. The best Fast and Charge attacks you can bring to this fight are Feint Attack, Avalanche, Ice Shard, and Snarl. These attacks offer high DPS and should quickly crumble the ghostly rock titan.
Golurk’s Counters and Weaknesses for the 3-Star Raid
Golurk is a Ground/Ghost-Type Pokemon and its weaknesses are manifold:
- Dark
- Ghost
- Grass
- Ice
- Water
But because we only have to worry about stomping one Pokemon, we can be much more straightforward about approaching it. The best Pokemon to bring are:
Gengar (ideally Mega but not necessary), with the attacks Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball. But if you don’t have Gengar, Sceptile with Bullet Seed and Frenzy Plant will also bring Golurk low very quickly. Both these Pokemon offer high DPS moves and can easily tank Golurk’s attacks.

But if you have neither, Swampert and Blastoise are both good options. They don’t have resistance to Golurk’s moves, but Water Gun and Hydro Cannon are powerful options.
Good luck catching that Golem, Trainer!
