A furnace burning bright.

When you first step out into the graveyard marking the expansive entrance to Shadow of the Erdtree, you’ll note something towering in the distance. A massive enemy, the Furnace Golem, lumbers lazily across the landscape with massive, earth-shaking stomps. If you come too close, it will launch a barrage of flames at you. How to Beat Furnace Golem in Shadow of the Erdtree

Considering their overall immense size, taking down a Furnace Golem in Shadow of the Erdtree becomes a feat of strength, dexterity, and perseverance. The key to beating a Furnace Golem is to break its stance until it topples over, leaning its face plate down near the ground. Its face plate is its weak point, so the moment it stumbles, launch into a flurry of attacks against this singular point.

But first, breaking its stance! You can attack its legs with melee, but it will stomp the ground, dealing area-of-effect damage in the meantime. If you’re coming up on the beast, it will launch a flamethrower-like burst of flames from its head that covers the ground. It’s deadly and difficult to avoid if you’re too close.

Furthermore, if you’d like every advantage, you can use Great Arrows to hit its face plate from afar or toss a Hefty Fire Pot directly into the burning basket when it falls over to deal significant damage.

As I said, this fight is one of perseverance!

Where to Find Other Furnace Golems in Shadow of the Erdtree

Of course, in true FromSoftware fashion, the Furnace Golem near the Scorched Ruins in the beginning zone of Shadow of the Erdtree is only the initial elite enemy you’ll encounter. There are plenty more scattered throughout the expansion, for a total of eight, that you can topple. They’re all equally challenging, though.

You can find Furnace Golems at:

  • Charo’s Grave
  • Shadow Keep Army Campsite
  • Scorched Ruins
  • Ruins of Unte
  • Cathedral of Manus Metyr
  • Rauh Ancient Ruins
  • Ellac River

Furthermore, as I said, there are eight. At the Ruins of Unte, alongside the lit and angry one, you’ll find an unlit Furnace Golem waiting for you.

If your goal is to take down each enemy in the expansion, then this is certainly one of the more challenging approaches. While not a boss-type enemy, the Furnace Golem proves more than capable of stomping out your light!

But hey, you can gain the upper hand by tracking down the Great Katana just north of the first Furnace Golem!
