10 Things Every Player Should do in Forza Horizon 2

Whether you're a rookie or a seasoned vet, consider this your Forza Horizon 2 bucket list.
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

We’ve been covering Forza Horizon 2 this week, talking about which cars to race, beginners and advanced tips to assist you in cleaning up on the cash and even advice on how to acquire your dream cars. What’s left to do in Microsoft’s racing game? Plenty.

Here are 10 things you need to do in the game. Each of these activities are not only fun, but also pivotal for getting the most out of your driving experience.

Create an Aggressive Drivatar

As with Forza Motorsport 5, Forza Horizon 2 utilizes a Drivatar system where players can race against you even if you’re not online. You’ll want to drive as aggressively as possible, ramming a few cars and even finding shortcuts at top speed. That behavior will carry over to your AI counterpart, creating an opponent that people will have a tough time beating.

Take Advantage of a Shortcut

Even though driving lines are one of the aids available in Forza Horizon 2 – and point out where you need to go – that doesn’t mean you need to stick to the open road. Sure, you don’t want to miss checkpoints, but in-between, try going off-road to skip a couple of turns. You’ll keep your speed up in the process, and eventually gain a first place victory over your opponents.

Enjoy an Online Road Trip

Hitting the road can be lots of fun, but it’s even more enjoyable if you’re racing with a group. Join up with a few friends on Xbox Live and travel together, and even make a game out of it as you race from city to city, eventually seeing who gets the first place victory.

Challenge a Rival’s Best Times

Even if a player isn’t online to race against, Forza Horizon 2 provides the opportunity to race against their Drivatar on certain tracks, enabling the chance for you to not only one-up their best racing time, but also earn a few credits in the process. Nothing beats being the top dog in a certain city – or for that matter, all cities.

Make Some Friends and Rivals at a Car Meet-Up

Located in the area of each city is a special car meet-up, where drivers mingle and issue challenges to one another. Even if you don’t know any friends in your territory, it never hurts to make a few new ones for an Online Road Trip – or for that matter, some rivals you’ll want to tear up the track with. Go on, meet new people.

Chase After Those Dream Cars

“That Ferrari’s way too expensive for me to buy!” you may say to yourself in real life. It’s true – not everyone has the budget to buy a fancy Italian sports car. However, in Forza Horizon 2, you can save up credits with ease and eventually add a luxurious thrill ride to your collection. Hey, it certainly beats being stuck with a Pinto.

Play Around with the Radio Stations

Like the Grand Theft Auto games before it, Forza Horizon 2 comes with a variety of radio stations. You’ll start out with three, and eventually open up more of a selection as you go along. Even though the custom soundtrack option is missing, there are still plenty of tunes to love – particularly the rock classic Debaser.

Tackle the Bucket List

As we’ve mentioned previously in Forza Horizon 2 articles, the Bucket List events are essential for moving forward in the driving world. Here, you’ll complete a variety of challenges with classic rides, and if you complete them well enough, you just might be able to add these vehicles to your garage.

Customization is Your Friend

If something doesn’t feel right with your ride, it doesn’t necessarily mean the car’s wrong for you. It may be time to upgrade one of its many parts in the garage, or even give it a nice new paint color to make it stand out on the road. Make sure you stop by the garage – and don’t forget to tell that attractive female mechanic that we said hello.

Dominate the Speed Checkpoints

Last but not least, you’ll find speed checkpoints littered throughout cities. Once you enter these zones, you’ll want to floor it and go as fast as you can so you can dominate each section. Be warned – your rivals will be right behind you, and they could easily overlap your best time if you’re not careful. Make sure you find them all and dominate!

Forza Horizon 2 is available now for Xbox One and Xbox 360.
