If you’ve already seen Prima’s Race Comparison guide, you know the basic differences between the races in Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Now we’re going to delve a bit deeper and get into some of the more intricate details about each of the races. For this article, we’ll cover the Namekian race, but be sure to check out our Dragon Ball Xenoverse game hub for more race breakdowns as they become available.
Race Overview
In case you’re unfamiliar with the Namekian race in Xenoverse, they have lower attack power than other races, but compensate with higher health. They also have a naturally faster Stamina regeneration rate, and items are 1.5 times more potent for Namekians. On the surface it may seem as though Namekians are built on defense, but that changes a bit as you delve deeper into the race.
Strengths
- High health
- Increased Stamina regeneration
- Items are more effective
- Extended reach with basic attacks
One of the biggest differences between Namekians and other races is that they have limbs that can stretch and extend. This gives them the ability to start combos from farther away, and gives their throws a bit more reach compared to other races. You can use this to your advantage by catching opponents off guard. Learn the maximum range of your throw, light attack and heavy attack, then use that knowledge to engage an opponent from as far away as possible.
With items being more effective, you have a few options you can use to boost your character’s abilities. Using an item that replenishes health makes a Namekian extremely difficult to KO. They already have higher overall health, but when you add in the fact that they can get more health from healing capsules, it means that a Namekian with a bevy of healing capsules essentially have four or five life bars instead of just one (assuming you use a healing capsule when your health is low).
You can also use attack boosting items or even level up your attack power by putting points into the appropriate categories to remove the limited weaknesses of the race. Doing this will give you a powerhouse Namekian that can become even more powerful with a Kaioken transformation, or defensive Super or Ultimate Attacks.
Weaknesses
- Slower attack speed
- Slower throw execution
- Low initial attack power
The biggest weakness of the Namekian race is the fact that they have low attack power. You can compensate for this with items or by focusing your points on attack power when you level up. However, you still have to deal with the Namekian’s slower attack speed, which is virtually unavoidable. You’re not going to beat out a Saiyan or Frieza race character if you both attack at the same time, but what you can do is use the Namekian’s longer reach to keep faster characters at bay.
Once again, it’s important to know the maximum range of your basic attacks so you can start a combo before your opponent is close enough to connect with a basic attack. This helps to balance the fact that your combo or throw starts slower than most characters. Throws aren’t a big deal for the most part, but if you Boost Dash into a maximum range throw, it can catch an opponent off guard and allow you to begin an offensive push.
Leveling Recommendations
Max Health (10 percent) – Namekians already have higher health than other races, but that doesn’t mean you should completely ignore this stat when leveling up. You should put at least 10 percent of your points into Max Health. If you want to create a powerhouse character that’s difficult to KO, put up to 40 percent of your points into Max Health.
Max Ki (10 percent) – This is more of a personal preference. If you use a lot of Ki-based attacks, then put up to 30 percent of your points into Max Ki. However, if you don’t find yourself running low on Ki very often, keep this to the minimum 10 percent of your points.
Max Stamina (30 percent) – Namekians already have a faster Stamina regeneration rate compared to other races, but Stamina is extremely important to all races in Dragon Ball Xenoverse. You should put at least 30 percent of your points into this category to avoid a Guard Break, and can use Vanish when you need to. It’s not unheard of to see up to 60 percent of your points go to Max Stamina, but at the very least, you’re looking at 20 to 30 percent.
Basic Attacks (40 percent) – As a Namekian, you have lower attack power than the other races. By placing roughly 40 percent of your skill points into Basic Attacks, you can help balance out that weakness. However, if you don’t use basic attack combos often and prefer to rely on Super Attacks, you may want to move those points over to Striker Supers or Ki Blast Supers. At the very least, you should put 10 to 20 percent of your points in Basic Attacks.
Strike/Ki Blast Supers (optional) – You can get a lot of damage from Super Attacks, and Namekians have lower overall attack power compared to other races, so it’s not a terrible idea to put some points in either Strike Supers or Ki Blast Supers. It really depends on how you play. If you use basic attack combos for most of your damage, that’s where your points should go. If you favor Super Attacks, put your points in the category that matches your preferred Super Attack type.
