There is no question that Destiny is a game with a lot of things to see and do. Whether it’s one of the Weekly Heroic Strikes, Daily Heroic Missions, or the more challenging Weekly Nightfall Strike, Guardians have their hands full almost every day.
That work extends beyond what we’ve mentioned above, and includes activities such as finding all 62 of the Dead Ghosts, as well as today’s topic, locating and opening each of the 20 Gold Chests. It may not seem like a worthwhile task for some of the higher level players out there, but if you’re gearing up a new character you might want to take the time.

Gold Chests – Earth
1 – The Steppes to Dock 13
The first Gold Chest can be found in the story mission, Restoration. Shortly after landing on Earth, look to your right and enter the nearby building. The Gold Chest will be in the next room sitting on top of a desk. Don’t expect the rest to be as easy to locate.
2 – Forgotten Shore
Your second Gold Chest can be picked up below the Terrestrial Complex at the base of the Forgotten Shore cliff. If you’re exploring, you can find this one shortly after the first. Follow the river to the west and stick to the coastline.
3 – Forgotten Shore to Mothyards
To find the third Gold Chest on Earth, take that path that connects the Forgotten Shore to the Mothyards. As you’re moving along, look for a cave with some water falling in front of it on your right side. You will find the chest inside.
4 – The Lunar Complex
The Second to last Gold Chest is located in the same area where you battled the Hive Wizard during The Dark Within. Jump onto some crates that are to the left and search behind them to find the chest.
5 – The Devil’s Lair
This Gold Chest can be found only when you’re completing the Devil’s Lair Strike. You can snag it during your fight with the Sepiks Prime or for a very short time after defeating it. It’s located underneath the right platform.
Gold Chests – Moon
1 – Temple of Crota
You’ll find the first Gold Chest on the Moon by entering the temple and dropping down to the lowest floor. Take the door that’s on your right, then follow the path into the Hive Temple. After crossing a bridge into the ship, continue out the right side and to the end of a ramp. If you look down and to your right you’ll see the chest sitting on a platform.
2Â – Archer’s Line to Hellmouth
The next Gold Chest is found as you make your way along the route from Archer’s Line to Hellmouth. You’re looking for a rock formation on the left side prior to reaching a bridge. When you find it, look on the backside to locate the chest.
3 – Archer’s Line to Hall of Wisdom
The third chest on the Moon is located by climbing the hill across from your starting point on Archer’s Line. Make your way through the dome and take the road to the Hive Fortress. Jump down the spiral ramp to the bottom of the cave, then snag the Gold Chest from the water to the right of its entrance.
4 – The World’s Grave
You can find this Gold Chest while completing The World’s Grave. When you reach the final room, drop into the water and look for the chest to be tucked away along the jagged wall.
5 – Moon Strike – The Summoning Pit
The final chest on the Moon can only be obtained during the Summoning Pit strike. It’s the one that sees you face off against the giant Ogre. Wait until the big guy falls, then drop down to a lower platform behind the Ogre’s starting position. Between two staircases that lead to the main part of the room will be the Gold Chest.
Gold Chests – Venus
1 – Shattered Coast to Ishtar Academy
The first chest on Venus is found by dropping through a hole in the Shattered Coast. Follow the tunnel toward the Ishtar Academy until you reach a bend. Turn back and look the way you came to find the Gold Chest laying beside a support pillar.
2 – Campus 9
This chest is found shortly after entering Campus 9 from the Walking Ruins. Look for a building that sits next to a waterfall, then head to the other side to find the Gold Chest.
3 – N/Gen Branch
The third Gold Chest is found after entering the N/Gen Branch from Ishtar Commons. Head to the right, then move into a small building with cubicles. Search them to find the chest.
4 – Winter’s Lair
To find this chest, follow the trail around the outside of the large cave until you arrive at the overlook. Make your way out along the narrow pole, then jump to the Gold Chest that is sitting on a ledge to your right.
5 – The Cinders
To find the final Gold Chest on Venus, fight your way onto the ketch while in the Cinders. At the far end, drop down onto a slightly lower ledge where you’ll find the chest.
Gold Chests – Mars
1 – The Barrens
The first chest on Mars can be found at the Cabal outpost that is near the Scablands. This area can be reached from the Barrens landing zone, and when you arrive the Gold Chest will be sitting on top of some crates.
2 – Barrens to Hollows
The Gold Chest can be found while traveling from the Barrens to the Hollows via a tunnel. Look for an opening just before you reach the downtown area. Jump into the hole where you’ll find the chest on your right.
3 – Dust Palace
Your third Gold Chest on Mars can be found during the Dust Palace Strike, inside the Dust Palace near where the first door is opened. You’re looking for a door with the number three on it, and behind the desk inside will be the chest.
4 – Iron Line – Legion’s Keep
To find the chest you’ll need to be inside the Iron Line, at the gate that takes you to the Legion’s Keep. Make your way along the left walkway, then jump onto some pipes in the corner. From there, turn around, then leap up to another walkway on the left side and follow it to the Golden Chest.
5 – Tharsis Junction
The final Gold Chest of Mars, as well as the game, can be found in the subway at Tharsis Junction. Look for a Vex gate in the corner and behind the train. When you locate a small room, go inside and through the fence in the far corner. When you reach a path, follow it to find the chest.
