Is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 On Game Pass?

It’s Call of Duty season and a new entry in the series is landing in Modern Warfare 4, sparking the standard conversations about Game Pass availability.

Microsoft still regards Game Pass to be integral to its operations, with first-party launches generally available on day one, but it’s no longer a blanket policy and things have become a bit more complicated.

For all the details about Modern Warfare 4’s Game Pass status, we’ve got you covered.

Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass?

No, despite being a first-party title for Microsoft, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Game Pass at launch, following changes made to the structure of the subscription service.

In April, Microsoft announced changes to the pricing structure of various Game Pass tiers, alongside news that Call of Duty titles won’t join XBOX Game Pass or PC Game Pass at launch, as they have done in previous years.

The decision was made following last year’s day-one release of Black Ops 7 on XBOX Game Pass, and while Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty title to be impacted by the changes, it won’t be the last, as this will be the norm going forward.

Will Modern Warfare 4 be Added to Game Pass?

Yes. While Modern Warfare 4 won’t be available on Game Pass at launch, it will be coming to the subscription service in future, depending on which tier you are subscribed to.

Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers will see Modern Warfare 4 added to the catalogue within 12 months of launch, though a precise date for the addition of the title has not been shared.

Game Pass Premium subscribers will also gain access to Modern Warfare 4 at a later date which is yet to be determined, but it’s bad news for Essential subscribers, who may never see the title added to the catalogue.

Don’t expect any additions in the short-term, as Modern Warfare 4’s Game Pass entry is a long-term prospect, so if you want to dive in sooner, you’ll have to buy the game.
