Where to Find and Catch Torchic in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk

Fire chicken is here to save the day

Just like all other starters, Torchic is back to the Dex in the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk DLC. The flaming chick is available after completing a few side activities in the game, and catching it is a walk in the park as long as you know where to look for it.

Where to Find Torchic in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk

Torchic is found in the Polar Biome once you complete the “Boost biodiversity in the Polar Biome” request in the Support Board in the academy’s League Club Room. This will increase the pool of possible spawning Pokemon in the biome to include various starters, and Torchic happens to be on the list. This request costs a total of 3000 BP, so get ready for some extensive farming.

Torchic in particular is quite peculiar as it can only be found in a specific cave next to Drayton’s arena in the Biome. It’s located at a high point in the mountains and it has a Tera encounter Metang in it. If you see the Tera glow inside a small cave in the snowy area, you know you’re in the right place.

For reference, this is the view you should have from Drayton’s arena if you’re at the correct point.

Once you enter the cave, Torchic may take a while to spawn, so exit the cave and enter it again until you see one. You can also find some Alolan Sandshrew, Duraludon, and occasionally Roton in here. If you want a small boost to your chances, a Fire Encounter Lv.1 Sandwich (Rice x5, Cream Cheese x2 and Curry Power x2) should be enough.

How to Catch Torchic in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk

The usual Quick Ball strat is recommended for catching Torchic. But if it fails to catch it in the first turn, start throwing some Ultra Balls as they have a higher chance than most balls. If you’re going for this route, be careful when lowering its HP as the small chick isn’t that beefy and may faint easily.

In this specific case, Torchic is inside a cave, meaning that Dusk Balls are particularly more efficient here. They should do the job of catching it. If you still can’t manage to do it, Timer Balls can save the day after a couple of turns have passed.

Once you have Torchic, you can evolve it to complete your Pokedex and get the rewards, or start shiny hunting it through breeding or inside this cave, whichever you feel more comfortable with. Whichever is the case, good luck with your next step, trainer!
