What You Need to Know for Final Fantasy XIV Moonfire Faire 2020

Who's afraid to learn what "summer shark blowout" means?

Final Fantasy XIV, like any MMO or live service game worth its salt, loves to run all kinds of seasonal events. Since 2012, the Moonfire Faire (it was called Firefall Faire in 2011) has been welcoming the summer into the world of Eorzea. The festive NPC Mayaru Moyaru has been the MC of this event for years, and that’s no different for the Moonfire Faire 2020 iteration. While last year had a sort of Japanese festival theme, this year seems to be a mix of Hawaii-inspired affect and… giant shark kaiju battle? That last part is unclear, but here’s what we know so far.

Once again, to kick the event off when it goes live on August 12 (the day following the highly-anticipated 5.3 patch launch day), players will need to track down Mayaru Moyaru. You’ll be able to find him hanging out around the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks area, and his coordinates are “X:11.5, Y:13.8.” Chat with him and you’ll be able to initiate the A Fish Too Far quest, which will lead you through the event and to the special event items.

We don’t yet have information on what the quest entails, but the flavor text over on the official website combined with the gnarly event art provide some clues.

“Whatever dangers lurk beneath the surface of this year’s faire, event chaperones are not like to turn away a helping hand.”

The star of the show is the pacific-themed and gender-agnostic Summer’s Flame equipment set, which comprises the following items:

  • Summer’s Flame Hat
  • Summer’s Flame Top
  • Summer’s Flame Wrist Torque
  • Summer’s Flame Pareo
  • Summer’s Flame Sandals

You’ll also be able to get a hold of the Flame Dance emote, which seems to be about what you’d expect it to be considering the theme. The Water Bomb Stand Outdoor Furnishing item rounds out the event set, and it’s pretty adorable.

Whenever a new seasonal event kicks off, players who missed previous years’ festivities can also visit the event-relevant vendors to purchase some past seasonal items.

Are you excited to hop over to Final Fantasy XIV and have some summer fun during the Moonfire Faire 2020 event? I don’t know about you all, but I have to know if that ridiculous, Street Shark-looking abomination is something I’ll get to fight.
