Word games have become an enormous success in recent months. With Wordle paving the way, there have been many variations and clones. Whodle is focusing on names, very specifically. The answer to the daily puzzle will always be some form of name, which does a good job of limiting the potential solutions, but still leaves more than enough for it to be very taxing.

Who created Whodle?
Whodle was created as an open source Wordle clone by Jim Hays. According to the about section, you can check the original code by Hannah Park or have a look at Aidan Pine’s fork. For names, Whodle draws from the Social Security Administration Popular Baby Names State-specific data from 1910-2020. There is also a reasonable limit on how obscure the names can be, as they must appear at least 5000 times in the source data.
