Splatoon 2 – How to Turn Motion Controls Off

Learn how to disable the motion controls in Splatoon 2.

Splatoon 2 is a welcome return to the fun, quirky, and colorful world that Nintendo originally created on the Wii U, and the game features many of the same features that the first game did. One of these features, motion controls, is a pretty big feature in many of Nintendo’s recent releases, and while it does showcase the strengths of the Nintendo Switch, many users just aren’t a fan of aiming using the motion based control system. Thankfully, Nintendo has made it fairly easy to disable motion controls, and in this article we’ll go over everything you need to know to turn off motion controls in Splatoon 2 and start aiming like you would in a normal shooter game.

How to Turn Off Motion Controls

By default, when you start the game, motion controls are enabled for Splatoon 2, and all of the game’s aiming is done through the use of moving the controller around. If you aren’t a fan of motion controls, you can easily disable them, and we’ve got all the details below.

To disable motion controls in Splatoon 2, you’re going to need to reach Inkopolis Square. This means you’ll have to complete the opening tutorial, and get a feel for the controls. Can’t remember all the controls? Check out our guide on how to play Splatoon 2 to get a quick refresher.

Once you are in Inkopolis Square, disabling those pesky motion controls is very simple. Simple open up the game menu by pressing X on your controller, and then tab over to the Options menu to see an assortment of options. All the way at the bottom of the screen here, you should see a button that allows you to toggle motion controls on or off.

If you like motion controls, but you think it’s too sensitive, or not sensitive enough, then you can change the sensitivity of both the Right Stick’s control speed, as well as the control sensitivity for motion controls.

While Splatoon 2 was crafted with motion controls in mind, not every player can get used to moving the controller around in order to aim. That’s why Nintendo allows the user to choose how they want to play the game, and if you follow the instructions above, you should now have a grasp of how you can disable motion controls, and aim using the Right Stick on your Nintendo Switch.
