Aspyr has revealed yet another remastered revival, this time for DreamWorks’ Shrek 2, a bit of a cult classic from the PS2 era that launched the same year as the animated film. The new release is coming to PC and consoles, and it’s more than just a straight remaster with higher resolutions and framerates, as it also includes a few neat additions.

New Features in Shrek 2 Remastered

Shrek 2 Remastered is largely the same game as the original, as it’s not a remake. Instead, Aspyr is bringing the 2004 classic to modern hardware with improved visuals and a few new features. Here’s everything that’s been announced so far.

  • Photo Mode: You can now take screenshots through a dedicated Photo Mode. Based on the interface shown in the available screenshots, you can adjust character visibility, poses, and expressions to get the shot you want.
  • Cheats Menu: The remaster adds a new Cheats Menu, but Aspyr hasn’t revealed exactly which cheats are included or how they work. The official description says you can unlock cheats to make your playthrough a more “seamless experience”.
  • Online Co-op: The original console versions supported local co-op, but the remaster adds online multiplayer for up to four players. You can play locally, online, or combine both for mixed multiplayer sessions. This is a really nice addition, because this is exactly the kind of game that benefits from playing with friends.
  • Improved Graphics: Aspyr has rebuilt the game with better textures, an enhanced UI, and improved cutscenes. The remaster also supports 4K resolution on compatible platforms, including PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Shrek 2 Remastered Platforms and Release Date

Shrek 2 Remastered is coming to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. It launches on November 10, 2026.

Shrek 2 Remastered Pricing and Pre-Orders

Shrek 2 Remastered costs $29.99, but you can currently pre-order it at a 10% discount for $26.99. The offer is available across platforms, although PlayStation owners need a PlayStation Plus subscription to receive the discount. There are no announced pre-order bonuses, so the discount is the main incentive to purchase the game early.

On Steam, Shrek 2 Remastered also has regional pricing, as is the case with previous Aspyr releases.

The new additions are nice, especially online multiplayer. This could’ve been a fairly straightforward remaster, but Aspyr has added a few worthwhile features alongside the visual improvements. Whether that’s enough to justify the $30 price tag remains to be seen, but I’m glad the studio is doing more than simply making the original game run on modern hardware.
