Samson: Basic Combat Guide – Controls Guide
I didn't hear no bell.
While combat isn’t always used for completing jobs in Samson, it is still important to know all the combat basics, especially since you might forget if you complete too many fetch and delivery jobs.
Here’s a simple combat guide for Samson to help you get familiar with the game’s combat system.
Complete Combat Controls in Samson
On Foot Combat Controls
- Light Attack (RB or R1)
- Heavy Attack (RT or R2)
- Parry (LB or L1)
- Throw Weapon (LT or L2)
- Evade (Circle)
- Adrenaline Rush (L3 + R3)
Most combat inputs are easy to remember, except for Adrenaline Rush. However, a good trick to remember how to use it is when you see the adrenaline bar max out (the one that says “Combat Rush I”) on the left side, it shows the exact buttons to activate Adrenaline Rush.
Vehicle Controls
- Gas (RT or R2)
- Brake (LT or L2)
- Kickdown (LB or L1)
- Turn Off Engine (RB or R1)
- Side Ram (X or Square)
- Nitro (A or X)
- Hand Brake (B or Circle)
- Exit Vehicle (Hold Y or Triangle)
Knowing the vehicle controls is also important because there are jobs that require you to take down other vehicles in a car chase. These controls sometimes disappear from the lower-left side of the screen, leaving only the “Hold to Exit” option visible.
While the main way of vehicle combat is just ramming your car into the other car and it takes damage, the best way to destroy other cars is by ramming them on the side, and forcing them to crash on a wall or a pillar at high speeds.
Combat Tips and Tricks in Samson

While the combat system is quite basic, mechanics slightly change when there are skills involved. For example, the Takedown Thrill skill from the Tactics skill tree allows you to heal for a small amount when you perform a takedown. Skills like Disarming Parry allow you to disarm enemies holding a weapon if you perform a perfect parry, incentivizing you to parry instead of evading. Take note of the skills you put in and play around them.
Another good tip is to focus on using light attacks when fighting multiple enemies at once. There’s no way to lock on targets, making it hard to isolate them one by one. Doing light attacks helps you react quicker to other enemies, as heavy attacks are slower than usual in Samson.
