The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PC is in much better shape than The Last of Us Part 1’s port from Iron Galaxy Studios. But it still has issues, and we’re hoping that steady updates from Nixxes Software continue to improve the quality.
Currently, despite the technical improvements in the PC version, there is a very distracting effect present in the presentation of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered because of an oversharpened image. Here is how you can fix that using a handy mod.
Remove the Sharpening Effect in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
As mentioned, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered graphics are pretty oversharpened, especially when you use DLSS. This is extra noticeable when you look at objects in the distance. While there is an “Upscale Sharpness” slider in the settings, it’s not enough to reduce the overall sharpness visible by default.
Thankfully, a mod created by huutaiii addresses that and removes the oversharpened effect. Here is a comparison screenshot provided by them that shows the mod in action.

Installing this mod is pretty straightforward.
- Head over to their Patreon post about The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered mod.
- Under attachments, click on the file. This will download a zip file.
- Extract the zip file where The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is installed.
- Right-click on the game in your Steam library.
- Select Manage, followed by Browse local files
It has only two files It has only two files (winmm.dll and CustomSharpnessII.asi) you need to extract from the directory. Once you’re done, start The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and the oversharpening will be removed from the game’s presentation.
I recommend keeping an eye out on the Patreon post for more updates to the mod. You might have to restart the game a few times, but it definitely works according to Steam, Patreon, and Nexus Mods. If you run into any stability issues with the mod, simply remove the two files that come with it.
All credits to the mod to go huutaiii for creating and testing this mod. You can visit their Patreon to learn more about their work.
Overall, we hope that this is something that Nixxes is aware of and will address in a future update. If you’re playing the game on an AMD GPU, here is how you can improve stability and fix any crashes.
