ReCore Tips – Extraction, Color Coded Weapons, XP Grind

If you’re just starting out in ReCore, we’ve got some tips to help you make the most of the first few areas.

ReCore may seem like a fairly straightforward shooter at first, but as you start to move through the game you may find that these ReCore tips will show you the best ways to make the most of your weapons and abilities. You’ll be able to kill enemies faster, maneuver better and move through the game faster if you employee these tips. Of course you can still play the game like most other third-person shooters, but you’ll be making things harder than they need to be.

Charge Shot

You’ll find that more often than not, multiple enemies attack you at once. You can use your basic fire ability to take them down one at a time, but that will force you to dash and dodge to avoid taking damage. Instead, use the Charge Shot (hold RB) to not only inflict significantly more damage, but also hit multiple enemies at once. You’ll need to aim the Charge Shot well to hit multiple enemies, but even if you only hit one, you’re inflicting enough damage to finish most enemies with a single Charge Shot and an Extraction or a few normal shots.

Extraction

There are quite a few enemies in ReCore that have a core you can Extract by pressing in the Right Analog Stick (R3). This fires a cable that latches on to the core of the enemy you’re targeting. If enough damage has been inflicted before you attempt an Extraction, you can pull out the core, disabling the enemy immediately.

Once the cable is attached, press Down on the Right Analog Stick to start pulling. Make sure you watch the color of the cable. If it turns red you need to stop holding Down until the cable returns to the default color. If you haven’t inflicted enough damage yet, you won’t be able to pull out the core at all. Just keep attacking the enemy until they’re weak enough to perform an Extraction.

Dash

The Dash technique gets more and more important as you encounter more enemies that attack simultaneously. While you can use it to navigate many of the areas in the game, during combat it helps considerably when you need to dodge attacks from all angles. Practice using the Dash ability to strafe left and right and soon you’ll be dodging attacks like a pro, making it extremely difficult for enemies to hit you.

Color-code Weapons

As you progress through the game you will find various upgrades that change the color of your weapons. These colors match the colors of the enemies you face. To get the most of the weapon upgrades, attack enemies with the appropriate colored weapon. For example, if the enemy you’re facing is red, use the red weapon upgrade for best results. It may seem like a fairly obvious system, but we’ve seen more than a few players miss this one already.

Explore for Secrets

ReCore is one of those games that has a lot of little alcoves and niches that contain supply caches with unique items. If you see a path that heads off to the side, chances are there’s something of interest at the end. Look for platforms that may see just out of reach and you’ll likely find a way to get up to that platform if you take your time and search the area. The more hidden treasures you find, the more you’ll be able to upgrade your Corebots and get various other goodies.

Grind XP

While ReCore is a shooter, there are plenty of RPG elements that factor into the game. One such RPG element is the ability to gain experience points (XP) and level up Joule. Anyone familiar with classic RPGs should know that sometimes it’s best to grind for XP so you can level up your character. The same can be said for ReCore.

There are plenty of enemies to face as you adventure around the world. While you can skip many of these enemies, doing so means you will miss out on XP. You need to level up Joule in order to unlock some areas of the maps and continue to progress the main story. Even if you’re in a hurry to get to the next area, it’s usually best to take down all of the enemies you come across to gain as much XP as possible.
