How to Win

In the console and arcade Puzzle Fighter games, you won by filling the opponent’s screen with gems. You would break Crash Gems in order to drop Timer Blocks on the opponent’s screen and bring them closer to the top and closer to losing. Most people played with traditional fighting game rules in which the first person to win two rounds won the match. While some of that has carried over to the Puzzle Fighter mobile app, there’s a lot that’s changed as well.

There are a few different ways to win a match in the Puzzle Fighter mobile app. You can use the traditional method of filling your opponent’s screen with gems and Timer Blocks, but in most cases that’s not how you’ll be earning wins. Instead, you’ll notice each character has a health bar near the middle of the screen, between the characters and the puzzle area. Just like in a fighting game, when that health bar is depleted, you lose the match.

We’ve already covered some quick tips on how to play the game, but to inflict damage you break Crash Gems. The size and shape of the Crash Gem you break determines which special move or super move you unleash on the opponent. You can check out your character card to see how much damage each attack inflicts. The more you play, the more you’ll be able to level up your character and attacks, and the more damage you can inflict. Unlike the console and arcade games, most matches in Puzzle Fighter mobile are only one round each, and the rounds go much faster than in previous games.

Unfortunately, because leveling up increases your damage, that also means that the more you grind (or the more you pay) the easier it is to win. Strategy still comes into play because you’re going to watch to move as quickly as possible and build accordingly so you can unleash powerful attacks, but if to players are equally skilled, the player with the higher level character and attacks will have the advantage because they’ll be hitting harder with each attack.
