One of these new features is the Gigantamax form that some creatures have the ability to transform into when fighting. Trainers will notice that Gengar turns into a giant mouth when he enters his Gigantamax form. According to the Pokedex entry for this new version of the ghost character, Gengar’s mouth becomes a portal to the afterlife in this form and that you can hear the voices of your loved ones coming from this portal when listening carefully.
Now, there have always been dark elements to Pokemon regarding their backgrounds and abilities. However, it has never been to the point where one becomes a portal to the afterlife that would like nothing more than to suck you in for eternity.
