The leader of the Unova legendary Pokemon is as elusive as it is rare. Here’s how to find Cobalion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk.
Pokemon Indigo Disk: How to Get Cobalion in Scarlet & Violet
With a golden crown and the very essence of a commander, Cobalion is a Pokemon that you shouldn’t miss out on. And it can be a little harder to pin down than you might think. Here’s how to find Cobalion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
To get Cobalion to spawn in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll need to complete the Indigo Disk campaign. Once that’s done, speak to Snacksworth, who will appear at the Blueberry Academy Entrance. Snacksworth will give you Legendary Treats depending on how many BBQs you’ve completed, with a new Legendary Treat being available for every 10. By obtaining these treats, the Legendary Pokemon associated with it will appear in Paldea.
To get Cobalion’s Legendary Treat, I had to turn in 90 BBQs.
On top of giving you Cobalion’s Legendary Treat, Snacksworth will give you a hint about where Cobalion is located, too. Apparently, he encountered Cobalion near a famed waterfall, but Cobalion then ran into a nearby bamboo grove.
There’s only one bamboo grove in Paldea, and that’s in North Province (Area One). But finding Cobalion might be a little harder than you think.
Fly to the Fury Falls waypoint. Once you’re there, turn immediately South, towards the Waterfalls. Climb the grey rock wall to the right of the waterfall, and you’ll find yourself on a green path. This path, which overlooks the waterfall, is where Cobalion is located!
How to Beat Cobalion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Cobalion is a Steel and Fighting-Type Pokemon, and you’ll encounter it at level 70. While that’s quite low compared to many of the other Pokemon you’ve encountered in the Indigo Disk DLC, Cobalion can be quite difficult to bring to heel because of its high-damage attacks and very high defense.
Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type attacks are all super effective against Cobalion.
Cobalion’s moves are:
- Iron Head
- Close Combat
- Sacred Sword
- Swords Dance
A Ghost-type Pokemon will allow you to avoid Cobalion’s strongest moves, Close Combat and Sacred Sword, but as the fight continues, you may find that Iron Head starts to really hit hard. That’s because Cobalion will endlessly boost its own attack. Rotom might be the surprise choice here, as it takes half damage from Steel-type attacks and no damage from Fighting moves.
And once you’re tackling Cobalion, you might as well take the short hike over to Virizion, who’s hanging out in the trees close by.
