Pokémon GO Halloween 2023 Part I: All Pokémon and Shiny Debuts, Event Research, Raids, and More

Something spooky this way comes.

The 2023 Halloween festivities will be kicking off in Pokémon GO with all new Pokémon debuts, shiny debuts, and plenty of research and raids. Read on for all the details of what to expect for the first part of Pokémon GO’s 2023 Halloween event.

Pokémon GO Halloween 2023 Part I Event Date and Time

The Pokémon GO Halloween Part I event for 2023 will take place from Thursday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. to Thursday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Debut Shiny Pokémon

Once the Halloween 2023 Part I event begins, shiny Phantump will be available for the first time in Pokémon GO. Players can evolve it into Trevenant by trading it or by using 200 Phantump Candies.

The following list shows the Pokémon that will appear more often in the wild during the Halloween 2023 Part I event, as well as if they can appear in their shiny coloration.

Event-Exclusive Timed Research

There will be two event-exclusive Timed Researches available from October 19 at 10:00 a.m. until October 31 at 8:00 p.m. local time. One will focus on capturing Ghost-type Pokémon, and the other will focus on Spiritomb and its 108 spirits. Rewards for completing the research tasks will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Stardust
  • Encounters with Ghost-type Pokémon
  • Encounters with Greavard
  • Encounters with Spiritomb (Spiritomb has a chance of being shiny)

Event Bonuses

During the Halloween 2023 Part I event, the following bonuses will be in effect:

  • Additional Candy for catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws.
  • Additional Candy XL for catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws.
  • Double (2x) Candy for hatching Pokémon.
  • Additional Candy XL for hatching Eggs (for Trainers level 31 and higher).

Halloween 2023 Part I Shop Items

Paid Timed Research

An event-exclusive Timed Research will be available for 5 USD (or the equivalent pricing tier in players’ local currency). Players can buy a Timed Research ticket for themselves or gift tickets to players that they have a Great Friends or higher Friendship level with.

The Timed Research rewards include encounters with Ghost-type and Dark-type Pokémon, including Phantump and Alolan Meowth. There will also be an animated “Ghost” avatar pose reward.

This Timed Research expires on Tuesday, October 31 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Players must complete the research and claim their rewards before this time. Unclaimed rewards will be lost.

Ticket of Treats Paid Timed Research

The Ticket of Treats Paid Timed Research has been available since the start of October. As part of this multi-part Timed Research, new research tasks will be added during the Halloween 2023 Part I event. Rewards include two Incubators, encounters with Phantump, and more. This Timed Research also expires on Tuesday, October 21 at 8:00 p.m. local time, so all rewards must be claimed before this time.

Halloween-Themed Avatar Items

A collection of Ghost Pokémon-themed avatar items will be available in the in-game shop starting with the Halloween 2023 Part I event. The avatar items include:

  • Yamask Mask
  • Cofagrigus Costume
  • Cofagrigus Head
  • Phantump Head
  • Greavard Wig

Players with Amazon Prime can claim Timed Research that includes, among other rewards, the Greavard Wig avatar item. The Timed Research can be claimed starting from October 16 at 10:00 a.m. PDT (1:00 p.m. EDT), making the wig essentially an “early access” item for Amazon Prime members. The Timed Research must be claimed by November 17 at 9:59 a.m. PST (12:59 p.m. EST) and completed before December 25 at 8:00 p.m. PST (11 p.m. EST) in order to receive all the of research rewards.

Halloween-Themed Stickers

Six spooky stickers will be available during the Halloween 2023 Part I event. There are a few ways for players to obtain these stickers, including:

  • Randomly from spinning PokéStops
  • Randomly from opening gifts
  • Purchasing specific stickers from the in-game shop
