Best Offensive Porygon-Z Pokemon GO Gym Battle Moveset

Players who intend to use Porygon-Z to challenge Gyms will want to have Lock-On and Tri Attack on their Pokemon. Lock-On will give Porygon-Z a lot of energy quickly to fire off plenty of Tri Attacks. Hyper Beam is stronger on the surface, but it takes longer to charge. Tri Attack ends up being the better move thanks to how often Porygon-Z will have it ready to go.

Tri Attack can only be learned by Porygon-Z through an Elite TM or by evolving Porygon-2 during a Community Day event. If you don’t have access to Tri Attack, some alternative charge moves that are effective for Porygon-Z to know include:

  • Zap Cannon,
  • Solar Beam,
  • and Blizzard.

Best Defensive Porygon-Z Pokemon GO Gym Battle Moveset

Players who want to leave their Porygon-Z to defend Gyms will want to teach their Pokemon the Hidden Power quick move and Tri Attack charge move. The attacking player will have the opportunity to dodge charge moves, making Hyper Beam less than ideal with its long wind-up animation. Lock-On is also not nearly as effective on a defending Pokemon, making Hidden Power the way to go when dropping Porygon-Z off at a Gym.

Purified Pokemon deal less damage, but they also take less damage from opponents’ attacks. If you have a purified Porygon-Z that you want to leave to defend a Gym, you can give it the moveset of Hidden Power and Return for the best possible damage output.

Best Porygon-Z Moveset for the Pokemon GO Battle League (PvP)

Porygon-Z’s best PvP moveset is the same as its offensive Gym moveset: Lock-On for the quick move, and Tri Attack for the charge move. Unfortunately, Porygon-Z isn’t too spectacular in PvP play because it doesn’t gain STAB (same Type attack bonus) from a type that can be super effective against other types. But for anyone interested in trying to make the little bundle of glitches work, Lock-On and Tri Attack is the best starting point. Tri Attack also has the chance of lowering the opponent’s Attack and Defense when used, giving it extra utility.

One of the easiest ways to get a Porygon-Z that knows Tri Attack in Pokemon GO is to evolve Porygon-2 during a Community Day event. Check out our guide to January 2024’s Porygon Community Day Classic to prepare.
