Path of Exile 2 Fate of the Vaal League Mechanic Explained
Double-corruption time!
The Fate of the Vaal league brings a new way to play the endgame in Path of Exile 2. It introduces a crazy crafting mechanic, quite similar to how the Vaal Orb works, while also adding more depth to the endgame by adding a build-your-own dungeon system.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Fate of the Vaal league mechanic in Path of Exile 2’s Last of the Druids 0.4 patch.
Fate of the Vaal League Mechanic Guide for Path of Exile 2

The Fate of the Vaal league mechanic lets you build your own “dungeon” with various rewards. As you go through different areas of the campaign and eventually maps, you’ll encounter these “Vaal Beacons” that are surrounded by enemies.

These enemies can be empowered and you must eliminate all of them to activate the Vaal Beacon. Once activated, you receive decent loot at the end, but your main goal is to activate enough Vaal Beacons to unlock the Temple of Atziri.
The Temple of Atziri is the “build-your-own-dungeon” part of the league mechanic. You’ll have a temple-shaped map, which is divided into multiple rooms. Upgrade the rooms and path through the Temple of Atziri to collect more and more rewarding loot, including finding new bosses, unique items, and even ways of crafting – Vaal Orbs, but better, hopefully.

To access the Temple of Atziri, you must finish a specific number of Vaal Beacons to activate the portal. As an example above, it requires six Energised Beacons to get to the Vaal Ruins. By going through each of the areas in Act 1, there was at least one Vaal Beacon for every area or instance.
That takes a while, but it becomes quicker when you start running Waystones or Maps. However, it becomes even more dangerous as monsters in the endgame become exponentially harder since they are already high level, and they become corrupted by the Vaal Beacon on top of the power level.
You can stack up to 10 temples at a time, so you can continuously run Waystones until you feel like running Temple of Atziri runs when you are ready. This strategy is great if you are min-maxing your time so you don’t switch through farming methods as often.

Once you are inside the Temple of Atziri, you’ll find a console with a dungeon map. You can place several tiles onto the dungeon, creating your own little twist with the appropriate rewards.
Each tile placed will have unique mechanics and challenges, but most of them are quite similar to map affixes or even the Trials mechanic.
Some tiles increase the level of other tiles, making it a good strategy to continuously buff a few tiles to increase the rewards. Your goal is to reach the final room of your own dungeon, so you have to keep finding Vaal Beacons to keep expanding it.
If you played Path of Exile 1, this is basically Alva’s Vaal Temple mechanics as well. There are rewards such as crafting, upgrades, and the infamous double-corrupt mechanic, which allows for the craziest items ever known to be crafted in both games. You’ll start to see short-form video content of these crazy double-corrupts soon as the league progresses, even in future leagues!
