Find out how to name your own planetary discoveries in No Man’s Sky.

No Man’s Sky is all about discovering new things, and one of the best parts of those discoveries is the fact that you get to name them. This article covers how to name a planet you discover in No Man’s Sky. With over 18 quintillion planets in the game, even with millions of players searching through the universe, new planets will be discovered by almost anyone who plays the game over the next few months.

We already covered how to name a new star system you come across, and naming a new planet is a similar process. When you reach a new planet, land and open the Star System pause menu (Option on the PlayStation 4). If you look on the left side of the menu you’ll see a list of all the planets and star systems you’ve encountered recently.

Select the planet you wish to name and choose the Rename and Upload option. You can then enter whatever name you’d like. Keep in mind there is a filter that prevents overly vulgar names. Ideally you want to name planets with a similar pattern. If your PSN ID is Eggo Waffles, you may want to name all of your newly discovered planets Eggo-1, Eggo-2 or something familiar and sequential so it’s easy to know where you are when you come across a planet you’ve visited in the past.

When you discover and name a new planet you also earn Units, which are the currency in No Man’s Sky. There are a variety of ways you can earn Units, but finding new planets is a great source of income, especially if you have the jump fuel needed to travel between star systems and find a nearly endless run of new worlds.
