Learn how to make millions by ripping off freighters as an infamous space pirate in No Man’s Sky.

In No Man’s Sky you can essentially become a space pirate and we’re going to tell you how to make Units (money) by stealing from freighters. As you make your way through the various star systems in No Man’s Sky, you’re bound to come across at least a dozen or so freighters each time you warp into a new system. It seems like no matter where you go, these massive ships are just waiting, ripe for the taking.

The beautiful thing about No Man’s Sky is that you have a choice. You can choose to explore, or trade, or just wander around aimlessly doing nothing. But if you’re anything like us, you’ll choose to take what is laid out right in front of you. This guide will teach you every trick you need to know about pirating goods in No Man’s Sky. Luckily, it isn’t nearly as hard as you might think.

Choose Your Target

The first step to pirating is to choose your target. We like to choose freighters that are close to space stations, as this allows us ample room for error should our ship fall to our enemies. It also makes running to the Galactic Trade Market a lot quicker, so don’t be afraid to set up shop near one of those big floating stations.

Once you have chosen your target, it is time to plan your attack. You’re going to be doing all the hard work by yourself, since there aren’t any ways to team up with other players. So make sure you have your shields and weapons fully charged. After that is done, just boost close, and start shooting.

Fight Carefully

Most freighters you come across aren’t just unarmed whales floating through the unending depths of space. In fact, many of them feature tons of guns across their hull. Target these first and take them out as quickly as possible. Also, make sure to constantly keep an eye on your ship’s systems, as you don’t want to end up without any shields when the Sentinels show up.

This is where a lot of people go wrong in this business. Many turn and focus their attention on the first Sentinel ship they see. Don’t do that. Each conflict in space is responded to by one Sentinel ship. If you don’t kill this ship, it doesn’t call for backup. So ignore the Sentinel, keep your shields charged up, and just gathering all the supplies that drop from those freighter cargo holds.

Once your ship’s inventory is full, tuck tail and boost your way to the nearest station to offload your product. Then rinse and repeat until your wallet is overflowing with Units. You can also hold on to your cargo and travel around to find the best Galactic Market price, but you don’t have to. Once you’ve exhausted all the freighters in your current system, throw a Warp Cell in your hyperdrive and head on to the next system for even more pirating fun.
