Practice makes perfect

This one seems pretty obvious, but make full use of the tutorials. Mortal Kombat 11 has a vast array of different mechanics and picking up and remembering all of them is tricky. There are even tutorials for the individual characters to maximise your mastery of your main. Make the most of them.

Pick a good starter character

While finding your main can take a while, it is worth picking one of the easier ones to start with. Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Liu Kang are solid choices for a new player. You can always branch out once you know more about the game.

A good story deserves to be heard

Ignoring one of the actor’s rather sub-par performance, the story mode is actually really good. It’s also a great opportunity to try out each of the fighters. This is the most entertaining way to find out who you like the feel of. It’s also only around five hours long so you don’t have to spend days doing playing it.

Mix it up

Fighting games rely on you learning as much of a character as possible in order to win. Mortal Kombat 11 is no different. Even against the computer-controlled fighters, it is worth changing how you attack. The AI will actually learn your patterns quickly so make sure you don’t become repetitive.

Fatal Blows are your friend

Fighting games aren’t about pride, they’re about winning with the tools available to you. The Fatal Blows are no different. When your health is low you’ll gain access to one in order to help you rebalance the fight. Make the most of the chance and use it when the chance offers itself and your opponent is open.

Punch them with the world

Each stage has parts that you can interact with in order to gain an advantage. Some of these do damage, some of these move you around. They are well worth using though in order to swing things in your favour.

Learn the Krushing Blows

Krushing blows are special attacks that are modified versions of your normal attacks. They deal more damage than normal attacks and can even have extra effects like damage over time. You can see the unique activation requirements in the move list on the right-hand side. This will be where the requirements are if an attack has a Krushing equivalent. Krikey.

Unlock Frost, don’t pay for her

You can get Frost by playing through the story. During Chapter 4 just choose Sub-Zero repeatedly and you’ll gain access to this ice-cold killer.
