Is Fortnite Really Shutting Down in 2024?

We’re not Epic Games, but it’s hard to believe the rumors that Fortnite is shutting down in 2024. On November 3, Fortnite released Chapter 4 Season 5 to an all-time player peak of 5,471,208, which featured the re-launch of the OG Fortnite map.

Throughout the years, the battle royale has gone in new directions that older fans haven’t liked, but at the end of the day, Fortnite is still pulling in impressive numbers with each season. However, because Fortnite was returning the OG map in November, a few fans started worrying about its future.

Fortnite Shutdown Rumors Explained

The rumors are largely misinterpretations spawning and fueling each other across the internet, and Epic Games hasn’t notified players regarding the game’s shutdown in 2023. Before the OG map returned, there were talks about Fortnite’s declining popularity and the potential of another title picking up the mantle. Although, it’s hard to gauge when Fortnite will run out of steam after seeing its massive player spike in November.

Not to mention, for quite some time, players have wanted Epic Games to return the OG map in Fortnite. If the developer were to capitalize on this momentum and continue listening to players, numbers might stay relatively consistent well into 2024. Of course, that comes down to Epic Games still creating fun experiences and feeding into the hype.

While the community is buzzing with theories about the game’s closure, no concrete evidence really points to Epic Games closing down Fortnite anytime soon. If you’d like to read more, check out our guide on the best drop spots on the OG Fortnite map.
