Is An Active Game Time Required to Play WoW Classic? – Answered

Still subbed after all this time?

The special Classic servers for World of Warcraft were introduced back in 2019 as a way to attract both newcomers wanting to experience the game’s origins and veterans wanting to relive those nostalgic earlier years. But do they all still need to pay a sub for that?

Do You Need Active Game Time to Play WoW Classic?

Yes, you still need to pay your monthly subscription to play on the Classic servers. It doesn’t matter if you’re going for the Classic Era, Wrath of the Lich King, or even the special Seasonal servers; all of them will require you to open your wallet to get both the expansions and the monthly fee to keep playing.

The good news is that if you are interested in the regular current WoW expansions or are migrating from the retail servers to Classic, you won’t need to pay anything extra, as the Game Time works for both versions. The same thing applies to all the different servers in each version. Once you buy Game Time for World of Warcraft, it works for all game versions.

Expansions still need to be bought separately for each version, but once you get the current upgrade, you won’t need to worry about that until the next big patch drops. And as long as you keep some Game Time in your account, you’re free to make as many characters as allowed on each server.

So if you’ve been pondering about tipping your toes on the new Season of Discovery servers on Classic, this might be the best time to do it as long as you have some spare money for the sub. It promises to be a whole new experience for both veterans and newcomers alike, so why not give it a try?
