Is Amnesia: The Bunker Scary? – Answered

Fear of the Dark... Fear of the Dark. I have a constant fear that something's always near...

The Unofficial Horror Game Summer 2023 (I just made that up, maybe it catches on) is upon us. Layers of Fear and Amnesia: The Bunker are out, and The Outlast Trials are in Early Access. If you have played Amnesia games before, you usually know what to expect. However, Amnesia: The Bunker is a completely new take on the Amnesia franchise and, while still set in the Amnesia universe, is an important puzzle piece lore-wise. But, how scary is Amnesia: The Bunker, really? Let’s find out, and without spoilers, too!

How Scary Is Amnesia: The Bunker?

From the trailer, you could understand that the plot of Amnesia: The Bunker is happening in a World War 1 Bunker. Now, it’s Captain Obvious speaking out of me when I say that different people experience and perceive fear differently. However, Frictional Games did a terrific job at setting the atmosphere in the Bunker. You will feel constant pressure and anxiety during the whole gameplay. You do not know where the enemy will strike from, nor you can get a good look at it.

You are in constant danger of running out of electricity. You have no idea what’s happening or what to do next, and the more you read about the lore in-game and the monster that’s lurking around the Bunker, the more you feel troubled about the idea of facing it head-on. Even if you knew what to do and how to defeat it, the pressure is still high. The sound is top-notch in the game and absolutely adds to the fear factor.

All in all, it’s a very scary game that you should play if you like horror games, even if you didn’t play any Amnesia games before.
