How to Unlock the Best Ships in Windrose
Time to win those solo fights now.
Tired of your tiny boat or your soulless Ketch in Windrose? Well, there are even better and bigger ships available, but it could take a while before you can get them.
Here’s a quick guide on how to unlock and get the best ships in Windrose. These ships are great because some of them offer more hitpoints and sail faster, so unlocking them is a must.
How to Unlock the Best Ships in Windrose

There are three main ships available in Windrose’s early access launch: the Ketch, the Brig, and the Frigate. Apart from all these ship types, each one has three variants: Regular, Brethren, and Blackbeard. These all have different stats, which makes some better than others.
However, if you unlocked the Ketch and are looking for better ships, here is the way to get them. When you reach the Tortuga Market (part of the main questline), you’ll see a few available factions such as the People of Tortuga, Rogue Buccaneers, and the Brethren of the Coast.
Go to the Brethren of the Coast faction’s provisioner and look at their wares. They should have the following ship designs:
- Ship Design: Brig – costs 1,000 Piastre (reputation level 2)
- Ship Design: Frigate – costs 3,000 Piastre (reputation level 4)
Purchasing these designs will teach the ship craft for these ship types. However, you’ll have to grind two things: Piastres and reputation. Farming Piastre is very straightforward. Finishing quests, obtaining loot from the seas, opening chests from points of interest, fighting sailors, and even selling goods to factions (the main way to get Piastre and Guinea currencies late in the game) give you ample Piastres that could make the Brig or even the Frigate available very early.
Personally, the hardest one to grind is the reputation level. Collecting Insignias and donating them to the desired faction group is the main way to increase reputation. You must get hundreds of Insignias, and it takes a while to reach reputation level 4.
All Ship Types and Their Stats in Windrose
To entice you on your grind, here are some of the stats for every type of ship and their different variants:
| Ship | Hitpoints | Max Speed | Cargo Size | Weapon | Second Weapon |
| Ketch | 50,000 | 19 | 28 | 3 guns, 12-Pounders | None |
| Brethren Ketch | 65,000 | 17 | 36 | 3 guns, 12-Pounders | None |
| Blackbeard Ketch | 35,000 | 21 | 20 | 3 guns, 12-Pounders or 24-Pounders | None |
| Brig | 70,000 | 20 | 24 | 6 guns, 12-Pounders | None |
| Brethren Brig | 90,000 | 18 | 32 | 6 guns, 12-Pounders | None |
| Blackbeard Brig | 50,000 | 22 | 16 | 6 guns, 12-Pounders or 24-Pounders | None |
| Frigate | 160,000 | 18 | 40 | 12 guns, 24-Pounders | 6 guns, 12-Pounders |
| Brethren Frigate | 200,000 | 16 | 52 | 12 guns, 24-Pounders | 6 guns, 12-Pounders |
| Blackbeard Frigate | 110,000 | 20 | 28 | 12 guns, 24-Pounders or 36-Pounders | 6 guns, 12-Pounders or 24-Pounders |
As you can see, those Frigates are leaps and bounds ahead of the other ships. Those hitpoints are massive, and it’s a good thing those ship repair kits heal for the percentage of the ship’s health instead of a specific value. If you are struggling to fight several ships at once, you can easily see the solution now – getting bigger, badder, and better ships like the Blackbeard Frigate.
