How to Unlock Characters in Duet Night Abyss
Choose wisely!
Duet Night Abyss made a drastic change to remove the gacha and let everything be “farmable” for everyone.
This is mostly good, but you’ll still have to work hard to get the characters you want, and here are all the ways you can unlock a character in Duet Night Abyss.
How to Get More Characters in Duet Night Abyss

To get more characters in Duet Night Abyss, you’ll have to obtain Secret Letter Clues from daily quests, daily commissions, and even collection rewards.

Then, use the Secret Letter Clues to buy character-specific Secret Letters from the in-game shop. You’ll need ten Secret Letter Clues for each character-specific Secret Letter.
Run the Secret Letter in the Covert Commission and hope for a Thought Reward of the same Character Shard at the end. Repeat until you get enough Character Shards along with the right amount of Phoxene Plumule to unlock the character.
That’s the most tedious way of getting a character, but you rarely have a choice in the methods you can use to unlock characters. This is why you want to know what characters you really want to unlock so you don’t waste as much time.
As an alternative, you can also get character-specific Secret Letters from running Nocturnal Echoes, Mystic Maze, and Immersive Theatres, depending on which character banner is running. This skips the farming of the Secret Letter Clues, but you’ll have a limited number of challenges available for this type of content, so this method of obtaining characters is a bit limited or restricted. Again, if you know what character you want, running these challenges is the best way to unlock characters.
Now, if you want it a little faster, you can always directly purchase the character from the store, but you’ll have to pay a pretty penny for it. If you are the type to not spend money on microtransactions, you don’t have to buy them. There are also some who are willing to pay a little to save some time, but I’d suggest you use that money for more efficient ways, such as passes (Bard’s Tome).
Those are the main ways of getting characters, and it might take a while to unlock all the characters, but it is definitely easy to unlock the first few characters, especially when you combine the daily and weekly rewards with the one-time rewards (achievements or collections).
