How To Get Your First Horse in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Get Pebbles back!

Moving around on foot in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has its novel appeal, but even short distances can feel massive, especially when you’re in a hurry. This is why having a horse is the ideal way to explore Bohemia’s vast landscapes.

However, horses don’t come cheap, especially when you barely have a few groschen to your name in the early hours. Fortunately, here’s how you can get your first horse for free —or very cheap— in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Your First Horse in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Henry will be separated from his beloved horse, Pebbles, after a brutal encounter with bandits during the opening of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Thankfully, you can reunite with Pebbles shortly after a key moment with Sir Hans (you’ll know when this happens) when you’re free to roam the lands surrounding Troskowitz.

Instead of looking for a horse that will likely cost you a 1000+ groschen, head to Semine instead. It won’t be marked on your map automatically, but it’s not that far from Troskowitz.

Once you’ve reached Semine, make your way to the building with the stables.

Henry will recognize Pebbles, so make sure you press Left Alt to interact once.

Now, talk with Groom Ballatay, who is also a Horse trader.

If you have enough points in “Speech”, you should be able to convince him to return your horse by selecting the following dialogue options in order:

  • “Pebbles!”
  • “Who sold her to you?”
  • “I rode in on her from Rattay!”
  • “Be reasonable” – Speech skill check

If the check is successful, Ballatay will give you back Pebbles for free.

However, if talking doesn’t work out, you can still pay for it. The price is only 160 groschen, which might seem like a lot during the early hours, but it’s 90% lower than what you’d usually pay for a horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Be prepared though, Pebbles is considered a “nag” by many of the inhabitants, and you’ll be subject to snide remarks wherever you go.

Once you’re reunited with Pebbles, however, exploring Bohemia becomes much easier, saving you hours of walking, fatigue, and bandit ambushes. As you accumulate more money, you can purchase a horse with better stats, but Pebbles is more than capable. Semine is a nice little settlement to explore, and there’s also a Saddler for all your horse needs.

Also, don’t forget to equip the tack that you get for free with Pebbles as well, in the horse tab of your inventory.
