How to Get More Dreaming Crests For Gear Upgrades in WoW

Crestivus for the rest of us

Since Dragonflight Season 2, WoW has transitioned to a more granular (and confusing) gear upgrade system. Designed to keep upgrades locked behind appropriately difficult content: here’s where each of the ‘Crest’ upgrade currencies can be found.

Where to Get Dreaming Crests in WoW Season 3

  • Whelpling’s Dreaming Crest
    • LFR DifficultyRaid Bosses
    • World Quests in the Emerald Dream
    • Mythic+ Dungeons (levels 2 – 5)
  • Drake’s Dreaming Crest
    • Normal Difficulty Raid Bosses
    • Weekly Superbloom, World Boss and ‘A Worthy Ally: Dream Wardens’ Rewards in the Emerald Dream
    • Mythic+ Dungeons (levels 6 – 10)
  • Wyrm’s Dreaming Crest
    • Heroic Difficulty Raid Bosses
    • Mythic+ Dungeons (levels 11 – 15)
  • Aspect’s Dreaming Crest
    • Mythic Difficulty Raid Bosses
    • Mythic+ Dungeons (level 16 and up)

This system, while somewhat convoluted, begins to make sense when you consider how these Crests are used. Essentially, Crests are generally found in the content the gear they’re used to upgrade drops in. So if you get a piece of “Champion” gear, which drops in Level 9 Keystones you’ll be using Drake’s Crests to upgrade it, at least to start. This funnels players into harder and harder content as their item level increases.

You’ll also need Flightstones when upgrading gear, which can be found in dungeons and as a reward from Dreamseed bounties. What’s more, you’ll be granted a discount on future gear upgrades after you’ve upgraded an equipment slot. So if you replace those gloves you just grinded to upgrade, don’t sweat! It’s only a paltry offering of Flighstones to upgrade the new ones to the same tier.

If you made your way to this guide, I’m assuming you know which Crests you’re looking for, but in case you aren’t sure how item upgrades work, why not check out our Gear Upgrade Guide for Season 3?
