How to Fix the Once Human Resolution Issue on PC

This is just the tip of the technical issues iceberg.

Despite doing massive numbers, Once Human is off to a rough start on PC. Its technical issues, lack of controller support, and inaccessible servers have made it hard to recommend in its current state. It also has limited resolution options, especially for players with less-common aspect ratios. If you want to play at a specific resolution or want to utilize your DSR factors, here is how you can fix these issues in Once Human.

Fixing Resolution Issues in Once Human

To use a custom resolution in Once Human, you need to edit the GraphicConfig.xml file and play the game in Windowed mode, paired with Borderless Gaming. If you want to use DSR factors, you need to set up the resolution of your desktop to the desired value.

Configuration File Edit and Borderless Gaming

First, if you want to use a specific resolution that isn’t available in the options, but your monitor supports it, then you can edit the GraphicConfig.xml file located in the following location inside the installation folder.

steamapps\common\Once Human\Documents
  • Open the file using a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++
  • You’ll see the “setting resolution” value in the start
  • Edit it to your preferred resolution
  • Save the file and exit out

After that, launch Once Human, and you will see your desired resolution in the settings. However, to use it, you need to play in Windowed mode. To remove this requirement, we’ll use Borderless Gaming.

  • Head over to the following GitHub page and download the latest free release under Assets (BorderlessGaming9.5.6_admin_setup.exe)
  • Install Borderless Gaming, and it will show up in your taskbar with a “BG” icon
  • Now, launch Once Human, and set the Display Mode to Windowed
  • After this, minimize Once Human, and open Borderless Gaming from the taskbar
  • In the Applications, select Once Human and click the forward arrow to add it to Favorites
  • Now, right-click on it to make sure “Fullscreen” and “Auto-Maximize” are checked

This will fill up the screen nicely, and you won’t have to deal with any borders like you have to in Windowed mode.

Enable DSR in Once Human: Change Desktop Resolution

To enable DSR while playing Once Human, you need to change the resolution of your desktop to your desired resolution set up according to the DSR value (resolution) in the NVIDIA control panel.

  • Right-click on your desktop, and select Display settings
  • Change the resolution to your desired target under Scale and layout

After you’re done, you’ll see the desired resolution options in the settings.

This obviously has a few caveats:

  • You will have to do this every single time you launch the game
  • The refresh rate will default to 60 HZ when you change the resolution, both before and after

You can automate this process like we did with both The First Descendant and Hellblade 2.

For now, these are the only two viable solutions for fixing the resolution issues. We hope that the developers add more options, and allow players to downsample as well. However, given the technical state the game is currently in, it’ll be a while before this issue is likely addressed before more pressing problems.
