How To Fix the Keeper Ultrawide Issue on PC

Ultrawide lighthouse.

Double Fine finally decided to grace us with a new adventure after Psychonauts 2 with Keeper, an atmospheric puzzle game where you control a lighthouse joined by a spirited seabird. It’s a gorgeous title and one that looks incredible on PC, especially.

That said, it doesn’t come with proper ultrawide support, meaning you’ll have to deal with black bars at the sides if you have an ultrawide monitor. Thankfully, Rose from the widescreen community has already released a patch to address this lack of support.

Fix the Keeper Ultrawide Issues

The patch from Rose removes the black bars from the presentation without reducing the FOV in the process. It’s very easy to use, and here’s how you can install it.

  • Make sure Keeper isn’t running.
  • Head over to the following GitHub link and download the latest patch file by clicking Keeper.ultrawide.v1.0.zip under Assets.
  • Head over to the following installation location, depending on your client, and unpack the zip file:
Steam: Keeper\Binaries\Win64
Microsoft Store: Content\PaganIdol\Binaries\WinGDK

After you’re done, launch Keeper, and it will run properly in ultrawide resolution without any black bars in its presentation. Here is a screenshot provided by Rose showcasing the patch in action.

All credits go to Rose for creating and testing the patch at 1920×1200, 2560×1080, and 5120×1440. You can learn about their work on their Patreon or BuyMeACoffee pages.

The patch doesn’t have any known issues and doesn’t add any extra features outside the removal of black bars. If you want to remove the mod for any reason, you can easily get rid of it by deleting the files that came with it, though I recommend playing with it for a consistent ultrawide experience.

I don’t expect this to be patched by the developers anytime soon, and it’s likely because the game wasn’t framed with ultrawide in mind. Ultrawide support is still pretty hit and miss for most modern releases, and while developers are catching on, I think it’ll still be a while before every game comes with proper native support for these wider resolutions.
