How to Find and Beat Meloetta in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk

Data miners were quick to find that Meloetta was buried in the game. But it took several days before anyone actually figured out how to get it!

If you’ve spoken to your classmates in the Blueberry Academy, you’ve likely heard rumors about a windy spot in a meadow, where music can sometimes be heard. This was the first, and likely only, hint to the mystery.

Fortunately, through sheer experimentation, we finally have the rest of the steps. Here’s what you need to do to find Meloetta in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Step 1: Fly to the Coastal Outdoor Classroom.

The windy spot in a meadow is in the Costal Biome. Head to the Coastal Outdoor Classroom. Once you’ve spawned in, head East, over the river.

You’ll enter a meadow enclosed by rock walls. Here, you’ll also notice that it’s quite breezy, with the grass swaying leaves spinning in the wind. Get close to the middle of the meadow, where you’ll see the odd protruding plant just behind my trainer.

You’ll need to be on or even in this bush to get Meloetta to appear!

Step 2: Start Spinning

For our next step, we’ll need to spin clockwise for at least 10 seconds.

You can spin by moving your left joystick in a circle going right without stopping. Eventually, your trainer will stand in place and begin spinning like a classically trained ballerina. Keep moving your joystick for at least 10 seconds, but to be safe hit that 15 seconds.

Step 3: Pull Up Your Camera

Now, it’s a wonder anyone figured out this part. Pull up your camera by pressing the down button on your D-Pad. While your camera is up, you’ll need to change the filter to Sepia.

Everyone should have this filter. To change filters in your camera, press the right button on the D-pad and you’ll begin cycling through all your filter options. You’ll be able to see what filter you’re on in the top right of your screen.

Step 4: Look Around for Meloetta

Now that you’ve done all that, Meloetta should have spawned. Look carefully around you and you should see the almost ghostly figure of Meloetta.

Once you’ve located it, you can put your camera down. Meloetta will now appear in the world as normal, and you can approach it for a fight.

Meloetta’s level 70 and it comes with two forms. It’s Aria Forme, which is Normal and Psychic, and its Piroutette Forme, which is Normal and Fighting.

It will switch forms each time it uses its trademark move, Relic Song, which it could previously only learn by visiting the Move Tutor. This move has an attack of 75 but it also has a chance to induce sleep. And Meloetta will spend a significant amount of time trying to put your Pokemon to sleep.

You can avoid Meloetta’s sleep statuses by using a Pokemon with the ability Insomnia or Vital Spirit or by giving your Pokemon a Chesto or Lum Berry. But beyond that, a Pokemon that can endure Normal and Psychic attacks is enough to get you through the fight.

Tyranitar, for example, will take barely any damage from Meloetta. But if you want a Pokemon that absolutely trivializes Meloetta, Spiritomb is also an option, as it’s immune to be Psychic and Normal-type moves. Sorry, Meloetta.

Here are Meloetta’s moves in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:

  • Psychic
  • Sing
  • Hyper Voice
  • Relic Song
