How to Do a Surprise Trade in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Surprise Trades are one of the more exciting features added to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Previously seen in Sword and Shield, Surprise Trades allow players from across the world to trade their Pokemon away without knowing the return. Most of the time you will receive beginner Pokemon, however you might just get lucky and receive a Shiny! Here’s how to do a Surprise Trade in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Surprise Trade Guide

Surprise Trading in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is as easy as ever. With only a few clicks, you’ll be able to receive random Pokemon from any country you can think of. This also means Pokemon from other areas will be named in the language of that area.

Here’s how to do a Surprise Trade in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:

  • Connect to the internet by pressing “X” then “L”
  • Head into the Poke Portal and hit “Surprise Trade”
  • Choose the Pokemon you want to trade
  • Once you hit “Trade it”, your game will save and put your Pokemon up for a Surprise Trade

Once your Pokemon is up for trade, it may take a few seconds to find a trainer to trade with. You will eventually receive a notification stating your Surprise Trade is complete.

To see what surprise Pokemon you’ve received, simply head back to Surprise Trade in the Poke Portal and hit it.

You will now see your surprise fly past your traded Pokemon and into your Box. Good luck!
