Life Is Strange: Double Exposure is an Unreal Engine 5 title and arguably the most visually impressive entry in the series. That comes at a cost, and it’s a fairly demanding game and could really benefit from DLSS or XeSS support. It also comes with a pretty basic set of graphics settings that nearly every other Unreal Engine 4 and 5 title has now and is missing a few key post-processing toggles, as usual. Here is how you can disable the chromatic aberration effect in Life Is Strange: Double Exposure.
Disable Chromatic Aberration in Life Is Strange Double Exposure
Chromatic aberration negatively impacts the game’s visuals, and it’s used excessively throughout the title. It can’t be disabled in-game unless you reduce the post-processing quality to the lowest value, which isn’t ideal. Thankfully, we can disable the effect using a tweak in the Engine.ini file.
Here is a comparison of the main menu background with chromatic aberration enabled and disabled.
- Make sure Life Is Strange: Double Exposure isn’t currently running
- First, open Windows Run by hitting the Windows and R keys together
- Enter the following address, and press OK
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Chronos\Saved\Config\Windows
- Here, open the Engine.ini file using a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++
- Enter the following lines at the bottom
[SystemSettings]
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
- After you’re done, save the file and close the editor.
After you have saved the file, the chromatic aberration effect will be completely disabled in-game and removed from the presentation. It has a fairly noticeable impact on visuals, and the detail is much sharper and clearer without it.

Restoring the Effect
If you want to enable the effect again, simply follow the steps shared above, and remove the lines you added. Make sure to save the file when you’re done.
We had a great time with Life is Strange: Double Exposure, even if some of the performance issues and bugs occasionally got in the way.
