One of the most important quests that Mages will have to complete during the Season of Discovery in World of Warcraft is Spell Research as they need it to start looking for Runes, the main gimmick of these servers. Do it as a priority as soon as you unlock it.
How to Complete Spell Research in Season of Discovery
Spell Research is obtained at Level 2 from the first Mage trainer you’ll find in the starter zones. It rewards you with the Ice Lance rune and the Comprehension Charm, required for finding more Runes in the future. The quest itself and the trainers will be different for every race, and here are the steps you’ll have to follow for those:
Human
The quest is received from Khelden Bremen inside the building in Northshire. Your goal is to retrieve the Spell Notes from the Defias bandits nearby.
They’re located in the Northshire Vineyards, so start beating up a few of Defias Thugs until they finally drop the Spell Notes: CALE ENCI you’re looking for. Once they do, use the Spell Notes and return to Khelden to complete the quest.
Dwarf
Dwarfs have to speak with Marryk Nurribit and find the stolen spell notes at the trogg camp nearby Anvilmar.
Fortunately, the camp is really close to where you are. Just walk a bit to the south and you should see it next to where you found your class trainer. The Spell Notes are hidden inside a chest, so sneak your way to it or slay the enemies around to reach it. Use the Notes and return to Marryk to complete your quest.
Orc/Troll
Both races get the quest from Mal’ah. Speak with her and she’ll send you to find a hidden chest inside the waters of the Burning Blade Cave.
Enter the cave and keep heading forward until you spot a river. Follow its waters and you’ll eventually reach a waterfall. The chest is hidden in the waters beneath it. Open the chest and use the Spell Notes you just received, then return to Mal’ah to receive your rune.
Undead
You get your quest from Isabella. She sends you to defeat some Scarlet Iniciates, which can be found next to Deathknell.
They’re stationed to the eastern portion of Deathknell. Defeat them until you drop the Spell Notes: CALE ENCI from them, then use it. Return it to Isabella and the Rune will be yours.
Aside from the rune, you also get a few Comprehension Charms, which are needed to decipher other runes you come across. You can find them even without the charms, but you won’t be able to learn them, so always have some extra Charms with you at all times. Extras can be bought from Reagent Vendors found in any major cities such as Ogrimmar or Stormwind City.
