How to Collect Familiars Faster in Witchspire
Squad goals.
Collecting and bonding with familiars is one of the core gameplay systems in Witchspire. These helpful creatures assist you in combat, puzzle solving, production, and even base management. While you’ll always begin with a starter familiar, here’s how you can collect more of them throughout the world of Witchspire.
Collecting Familiars in Witchspire
It isn’t immediately obvious how you’re supposed to collect familiars, but here’s how it works.
When you’re fighting a bondable foe, a spirit ball is formed in its place after it’s defeated. It will either shoot up into the sky or linger around for you to interact with. In the following screenshot, the spirit shot up, leaving a purple trail behind.

If the spirit ball lingers instead of shooting up, interact with it by holding the F key.

The familiar of the spirit will then be added to your inventory, and you can either place it in your party or assign it to a workstation.
If an enemy doesn’t leave a spirit behind, that means you can’t collect it, and it’s a regular enemy.
Increase Bonding and Spirit Lingering Chance
Early on, most bondable foes’ spirits will likely shoot up into the sky, and there’s only a tiny chance they’ll leave behind a lingering spirit ball. However, you can increase those chances through a few methods.
Craft Simple Spirit Incense
At the Workbench, you can craft a Simple Spirit Incense, which increases the bonding chance by 10% for 20 seconds when deployed in combat.
| Item | Item Image | Effect | Crafting Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Spirit Incense | ![]() | For 20 seconds: +10% Bonding chance | x5 Spirit Dust |
Make sure to activate it only when you’re in combat or when an enemy is close to dying, since you have a limited 20-second window for it to take effect.
Unlock the Spirit Charmer Node
You can also increase the chance of spirits lingering by unlocking the Spirit Charmer node in the Luminaries tree.

The first node becomes available once your Hearth reaches Level 3 and your Bonding Skill reaches Level 5.
As you progress further and continue upgrading your Hearth, you’ll eventually unlock additional Spirit Charmer nodes that further improve your bonding chances.
Bonding Tips
As a general strategy, I recommend keeping some Spirit Incense on hand at all times. If you come across a rare or high-level bondable familiar, you’ll have a better chance of bonding with it and adding it to your collection if the incense is used in combat.
Since the incense doesn’t have a hefty crafting cost, it’s worth stocking up on. If you encounter a group of bondable familiars, try to focus your attacks on one that’s different from the one being attacked by your bonded familiar.
Remember, familiars aren’t just useful in battle. Workstations require specific familiars to boost production, so when you’re out exploring, make sure to keep an eye out for the ones your workstations need. You don’t even need to deploy or replace a familiar in your current party, as you can keep additional familiars in your inventory as well.
