How to Beat Urivar in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred

That's for throwing us in the river!

Urivar starts Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred’s campaign with a shocking twist by inadvertently sending you to the Nahantu region. As you go through more of the story, you’ll eventually meet him and get revenge. However, the battle against Urivar will be difficult, especially for those whose build isn’t strong yet or who rush too much into the story that you lack some skill points. Even with a below-average build, you can still beat Urivar as long as you pay attention to all the mechanics. Here’s how to beat Urivar in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred.

How to Defeat Urivar in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred

The fight against Urivar is more annoying than a “difficult” fight. The whole battle revolves around Urivar rushing to you to do melee attacks while several knights attack you from different directions. In different phases, Urivar will step out of the arena and let you battle against the knights, making it a grueling, long battle.

If you were relying on spamming health potions to survive at this point, you need to play safer. Since most players don’t have great single-target DPS, the fight will always be longer than expected.

To beat Urivar, you must find a way to deal damage to Urivar while also eliminating the other knights at the same time. If there are too many knights in battle, they might stun or stagger you occasionally and eventually lose enough health potions to survive.

Any build with multi-targeting attacks shouldn’t have any problems. When Urivar phases out of the fight, there will be some “invulnerable” knights running in a linear direction within the circle, and you will have to dodge the attacks from these knights. You can think of it as a minigame you typically see in platformers.

The biggest hurdle in Urivar’s fight is actually the passive knights in battle. If you have noticed, several knights are forming a circle around the arena. Once a player goes past these knights, you take immediate damage. You’ll continue to take damage unless you go back into the circle.

Most players don’t notice this mechanic since they’ll only pass these knights if Urivar suddenly leaves the circle and the players chase Urivar to deal more damage. You have to remain patient and wait until Urivar eventually goes back to the middle.

What Happens if You Spare Urivar’s Life in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred?

When you beat Urivar, you’ll see a cutscene of him… not regretting anything he did. He’ll go on a speech about his self-righteous path, maybe hoping you would spare him. After the scene, you’ll see Urivar kneeling down with his arms wide open.

Normally, players would just execute him, but what happens if you spare his life? Well, nothing really happens. The game will almost remain frozen in that scenario unless you do something like leave the area or finally eliminate Urivar. A missed opportunity right there.

If you struggled in this fight, you might want to level up more before getting back into the story so the rest of the fights become a breeze. You can also unlock some mercenaries to get a slight boost in utility.
