The counterparts to Pokemon’s Gym Leaders in Palworld are the Tower Officers, whom you can challenge by entering their lairs. The first one you can see is Zoe, who fights using her Grizzbolt and proves to be a small challenge to newbies who are just starting the game.
How to Defeat Zoe & Grizzbolt in Palworld
Zoe is located in the Windswept Hills at the Tower of the Rayne Syndicate, north of where you first started the game. There’s a teleport right next to her Tower fight, and you can challenge it by simply approaching the structure. The Zoe challenge is part of the game’s initial tutorial that advises you to come prepared, so you better abide by its advice. Level 10+ is recommended for having a chance, but 13+ gives you more comfort.
Grizzbolt is your only adversary, so bring Ground Pals and avoid using Water as they’ll be at a huge disadvantage here. Good early-game options are Gumoss, Dumud, and Rushoar, but any non-water will probably do fine. As for your own equipment, make sure you have at least one regular Shield item equipped, and bring a bow/crossbow with dozens of arrows as you’ll need them.
Grizzbolt has over 30,000 HP, which is probably the highest you’ve encountered so far, so be careful. Use the pillars in the arena to avoid its attacks while your Pal gets its attention, then start sneaking around it to shoot it down. It takes extra damage if you hit his face, but just hitting Zoe doesn’t seem to give you any bonus. Once it starts charging his Lock-on Laser, hide behind a pillar or pull your Pal back to render its attack useless.
Despite its huge HP being intimidating at first, Grizzbolt isn’t that much of a threat as most of its attacks are slow and the arena can help you dodge his projectiles. Just be careful not to let your Pal faint here and cycle through your other fighters if the current Pal gets too low. If you’re playing normally, Zoe & Grizzbolt cannot be captured, so burn them down and don’t bother wasting your Spheres.
How to Catch Zoe & Grizzbolt in Palworld
Zoe & Grizzbolt can be captured instead of defeated. This is confirmed to be working as of Steam version 0.1.3.0, but future updates might remove the feature altogether.
To catch the duo, you must first obtain the “Wanted” status by hitting an innocent human anywhere in front of PSID soldiers. No need to kill it as you only need the soldiers to chase you. An easy place for that is the Small Settlement next to Zoe’s tower, around 74, -485. There’s a Fast Travel point right there for an easy escape.
Once you get the soldier’s attention, head straight for the tower and challenge Zoe again (there’s a 10-minute cooldown once you defeat her, so be mindful of that). The soldiers should enter alongside you. Don’t use your Pal and don’t hit her. Wait until the soldiers shoot Grizzbolt and you’ll notice that it’ll stop attacking. Once this is done, sneak behind the duo and use a regular Pal Sphere from their back (it has to be from their back or it won’t work).
If you do everything correctly, Zoe and Grizzbolt will now be yours. Press Esc, then “Respawn” or “Return to Title” to escape the tower and remove the Wanted status. This special Grizzbolt has the same HP as the boss version, making the duo one of the strongest Pals you can get in the whole game.
Due to this unorthodox method, it’s clear to see that this is most likely a glitch that might be removed in the future. Your account will probably still be safe even if you catch Zoe and other Tower bosses in the game, but we can’t be sure of what will happen to the captured Pals. They’ll probably be removed, so enjoy while you can.
Aside from the huge HP, this Grizzbolt has the same status as a regular one, so it’s a great asset to your farm if you don’t want to use it in battle. Use it to get some quick levels and make your base grow even faster since you’ll need it as you advance through the game.
