It can be tough to survive the zombie apocalypse by yourself. Luckily, State of Decay 2 has online multiplayer co-op so you can slay zombies alongside your friends, a first for the State of Decay franchise. Playing co-op ensures that you and your friends can protect each other from the infected hordes and build a thriving community at your home base. Setting up online co-op in State of Decay 2 is a fairly simple process, but we’ll go over how to play co-op in case you need a nudge in the right direction.

Does State of Decay 2 Have Local Split-Screen Co-Op?

The short answer is no. Unfortunately, State of Decay 2 does not currently support local couch co-op. However, the game does support online multiplayer co-op for up to four players, which means you can invite three other people to join you for some zombie-slaying fun on either Xbox One or Windows 10 PC.

How to Setup Online Co-Op in State of Decay 2

State of Decay 2 allows you to team up and play co-op multiplayer with up to three of your friends online. Follow the steps below to setup co-op in State of Decay 2:

  1. Start up State of Decay 2.
  2. Open the Pause Menu and select Settings.
  3. Go to the Multiplayer tab.
  4. Change the settings on the right to either Invite Only or Friends Only.
  5. Return to the Pause Menu. Guest slots should now be available.
  6. Select a Guest slot to send an invite to a friend.

Once you have invited an online friend on either Xbox One or Windows 10 PC to play co-op in State of Decay, all your friend needs to do is accept the request. Send out invites using the remaining guest slots to fill up your team of survivors.

How to setup co-op multiplayer in State of Decay 2

It’s important to note that players who join a friend for co-op will not earn standing for their character, but they will continue earning influence, which helps when claiming outposts later on. Guest players must also stay within range of the host player, so try not to stray too far while scavenging or fighting off zombies in State of Decay 2.

Playing co-op with friends in State of Decay 2 can help to take the edge off surviving the zombie apocalypse.
