The place to head if you want to play Super Mario Maker 2 in local co-op is Course World, your portal to everyone’s wildest level creations so far. To begin local multiplayer you’ll want to talk to Coursebot, where you can also find any levels you’ve already downloaded or created ready to upload. Once you’re in the Coursebot menu (by pressing the plus or minus button), follow these steps to play Super Mario Maker 2 with two players:

  • Find the course you want to play in My Courses
  • Down the right-hand side of the screen you should see “Play Together”, select that
  • Sync the controllers you’re going to use to play together in co-op
  • Confirm each player’s controller and you’ll be in the selected course together

This should let you play any course with your friend, as long as you’re in the same room on the same console. Don’t worry if the course you downloaded from Course World isn’t labelled as a multiplayer level, you can still play it with two players in local co-op. This goes for competitive multiplayer courses, too, you don’t always have to work together!

Now that you can play Super Mario Maker 2 with two players, you’ll want to know where those brand new power ups are hidden. Have fun digging them out together!
